As part of her Arts Council England Fellowship at The Word Hoard in Huddersfield, Canadian writer Sarah Murphy has collaborated with musicians Shaun Blezard and Keith Jafrate to create a performance version of her story when bill danced the war. Through a strange, powerful hybrid of spoken word, jazz, improv and sound-art, the trio have created an intense sound world that mixes radio, pow wow drums, loops, effects, samples and saxophones, to surround Sarah's fierce anti-war story, which concerns the horrors witnessed by her Choctaw father Bill, a sailor who was involved in 3 American wars. when bill danced the war first appeared in the text and in Sarah's 2002 collection die tinkerbell die from The Word Hoard's Spout Publications. The live performance of when bill danced the war represents a new and exciting direction in an ongoing collaboration.
