Influences
Our children and families; nature, Gateway, Bill Evans, Frank Lloyd Wright, Bill Frisell, Spinal Tap, 3 Stooges, Edward G. Robinson, Frank Sinatra, Sopranos, Oregon, shapes that could potentially function as a frame for something.
Framework's self-titled debut is easily one of the best hometown jazz albums of the year. Chris Olson (guitar), Chris Bates (bass) and Jay Epstein (drums) offer chamber jazz that is both cerebral and visceral, electric and acoustic, with sublime compositions, enviable empathy and a couple very cool Wayne Shorter covers. With Olson's probing writing, Epstein's shimmering cymbals and Bates' brawny and eloquent bass work, Framework has a distinct sound that's always very melodic and sometimes gutsy and rock-inflected. Hey Framework, I keep searching for you between the cushions. In your absence I am forced into finding other forms of amusement while thinking about you. All my thoughts are lost to your graceful gaze? How it passes there and back again like a tear drop glistening in moonlight. Blinking reveals the true visage of beauty hidden within your eyes. Your beauty is equal to the smoothness of a polished gem. I relentlessly desire cotton candy lollipops. Your sweet voice is like the application of aloe vera upon a sunburnt back. Your layers of absinthe and torsion form concretions of hyper-alimentation. As the bliss slowly rises in my incandescent eluxulator, your mere presence has a euphoric effect upon me. You breath as delicately as vapors flowing towards an attractive flame. Your eyes show as many deep and full shades of fire as a thousand supernovas. May you always have stables of horses to service your needs. I sense wild vapors of sweet champagne in your larynx. A starfish's lifelong hallucinations of gelatin pools and of actuaries floating upon the foam and reciprocal ohm.
