Francesco Negro nasce a Maglie (LE) l’8 febbraio del 1986. La
sua “storia musicale” incomincia all’età di soli sei anni quando viene
avviato dalla famiglia allo studio del pianoforte sotto la guida della
prof.ssa Maria Francesca Chiarello. Nel 1997 partecipa al Concorso Nazionale di Musica a Taurisano (LE) occupando il primo posto con il massimo dei voti. Nello stesso anno consegue il medesimo risultato al Concorso Europeo di Musica a Monopoli. Sempre nel 1997 comincia a studiare presso il Conservatorio di Musica T. Schipa a Lecce. Dal 1998 al 2004 partecipa ai Corsi di Perfezionamento Pianistico tenuti dal M° Antonio Serrano. Il 1998, inoltre, è importante per la formazione di Francesco perché si avvicina allo studio del blues che maturerà nel corso degli anni seguenti fino ad approdare al jazz. A 12 anni entra nella prima formazione blues, ma sempre coltivando la passione per la musica classica. All’età di 16 anni inizia a frequentare l’Associazione Culturale Jazz T.S. Monk di Maglie in cui si apre al discorso musicale jazzistico. Nel 2003 partecipa ai seminari della Berklee School a Perugia sotto la guida di Jeff Stout, Russell Hoffmann, Matt Marvuglio, Elvin Jones e Bob McFerrin.
Nel 2005 partecipa ai seminari d'improvvisazione presso il Conservatorio "Nino Rota" di Monopoli (BA) sotto la guida del pianista Stefano Battaglia.
Nel 2006 registra il disco "Photinx" con il Quartetto Photinx e con ospite il sassofonista danese Martin Jacobsen (pubblicato a maggio del 2007). Nello stesso anno partecipa ai seminari della Berklee School a Perugia sotto la guida di Ken Cervenka, Dennis Montgomery, Mike Williams, Jim Odgren e Gary Burton.
Nel 2007 si laurea al Conservatorio "T. Schipa" di Lecce con il massimo dei voti e la lode sotto la guida del M° Corrado Nicola De Bernart.
A gennaio del 2008 registra il disco “Abbagli” con composizioni inedite scritte da Francesco con la partecipazione di Vincenzo Presta, Igor Legari e Alessandro Minetto. Il disco è stato pubblicato dalla Philology Records nella Revelation Series.
Nel 2009 inizia a frequentare In.Ja.M. International Jazz Master Program di Siena.
A giugno dello stesso anno vince l'Italian Jazz Awards 2009 nella categoria Brand New Act.
Sempre nel 2009 si laurea in "Musica del '900" con il massimo dei voti e la lode presso il Conservatorio "L. Refice" di Frosinone sotto la guida del M° Giancarlo Simonacci.
Attualmente Francesco Negro svolge un’intensa attività didattica e concertistica.
