Dr. Frances Nelson Williams's Interests
|
| General | Frances Nelson Williams, a faith-based community leader and domestic violence awareness advocate, announced that she has entered the race. Williams describes herself as a board-certified chaplain, ordained minister and motivational speaker. She is staff chaplain at Methodist Hospital.
Other Democrats in the race are state Reps. David Orentlicher and Carolene Mays, both of Indianapolis, and City-County Councilman Andre Carson, grandson of U.S. Rep. Julia Carson, who held the seat for more than a decade. She died of cancer Dec. 15.
"Indiana needs someone who will be a 'voice for the voiceless,' " Williams said in a news release. "My experiences and my career have trained me to listen compassionately, to serve unselfishly and to seek justice and opportunity for all -- especially the underserved and marginalized."
