The first song that you can listen to is Smokey Wilson's version of the Willie Cobbs song You Don't Love Me. It was recorded on 21 April 1999 in a 4-song session at the BBC studio's in Birmingham (UK) for the Paul Jones show on BBC Radio Two. Personel: Smokey on guitar and vocals, Rob Geboers on Hammond organ and piano, Nico Heilijgers on bass, and myself on drums. Smokey was full of energy when this was recorded, which you can hear in the tempo; it's way faster than the version on his cd 88th Street Blues. I'm very proud of having been part of this session, and having the opportunity of recording with Smokey. I'll update the other 3 songs soon, since they're worth listening to!
I recently added two brand 2-minute cuts from the upcoming release Got It Covered by the Robbert Fossen Blues Band. Recorded in December 2007 in Utrecht, The Netherlands. The album will contain 12 songs, mainly blues, some funky soul, and even some gospel, and will be released in March 2007.
The fourth cut is No, from Burton Gaar, released on the cd One Hundred Pounds Of Trouble, CrossCut Records ccd 11053. It was recorded in 1997 at Studio 44 in Monster (NL), famous for it's jazz and acoustic recordings, produced by Burton himself, helped by engineer Max Bolleman, and with Burton on bass and vocals, Jan Mittendorp on guitar, Roel Spanjers on Hammond B3 organ and me on drums. No was covered by Charlie Musselwhite; it's the first song of his cd Continental Drifter.
The fifth track, Willie Dixon's I Ain't Superstitious, was recorded with Percy Strother for his cd Home At Last, on Black & Tan Records cd B&T 002. This was recorded in 1998 at Farmsound Studio in Heelsum (NL), and produced by Roel Spanjers, helped by engineer Wil Hesen. Personnel on this album are Percy on vocals, guitar & harp, Jan Mittendorp on guitar, Ellio Martina on bass, Arend Bouwmeester on sax, Tom Schepp on harp, Roel Spanjers on organ and piano, and myself on drums and percussion. This cd is pretty much Percy's tribute to the Chess artists and recordings from the fifties and sixties, these days considered as blues classics.
After that, do listen to the sixth song on this player, where I play drums on Boo Boo Davis' We're In Hell, from his first release East St. Louis on Black & Tan Records cd B&T 005. It was recorded in the fall of 1999 at Farmsound Studio in Heelsum (NL), and produced by Roel Spanjers & Bob Lohr, assisted by recording engineer Wil Hesen. Personnel on this album are Boo Boo on vocals and drums, Arthur Williams on harp, Bob Lohr on piano, Larry Griffin on guitar, Greg Edick on bass, Roel Spanjers on organ and myself on drums and percussion on some cuts.
