Not just re-edit fodder… from doo-wop to disco, from ‘Sherry’ to the theme from ‘Grease’, New Jersey’s Frankie Valli has been making records since the 50s, a falsetto angel of the golden oldie AM stations, burger bar jukeboxes, drive-in movies and suburban discos of late 20th century Americana. The high pitched voice behind 60s pop smashes that you know deep in your DNA even if you never knew he was behind them, selling a staggering 100 million records along the way. In the ‘70s while selling 2 million copies of ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’ in the US, in the UK songs like the darkly almost psychedelic ‘The Night’ were sending the acrobatic dancers at Northern soul all nighters like the Wigan Casino into backflips and high kicks.
Although a legend on his native East Coast, even immortalised in the Tony-winning broadway smash hit musical tribute Jersey Boys, Frankie is less well known over here. He was last seen on our TVs on The Sopranos, suffering the inevitable whacking as New York capo Rusty. But now, with Pilooski’s re-edit of ‘Beggin’ all over clubs and destined to be a summer smash plus Klaxons’ Erol Alkan-produced cover version of ‘The Night’ set for release on the b-side of their latest single (and don’t even get us started on Grease Is the Word) the time is right for a re-evaluation of this 20th century legend.
This album includes not only hits like ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’, ‘Oh What A Night (December 1963)’, ‘Walk Like A Man’ and ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’ but also French DJ Pilooski’s brilliant updating re-edit of ‘Beggin’ and brand new Pilooski re-edits of ‘The Night’ and ‘Who Loves You’.
• Pilooski started as a DJ for Benjamin Diamonds label (Stardust), Diamond Traxx in 1999.
• He did 2 EPs for Diamond Traxx under name Pilooski, (one was a project with NY rapper Mike Ladd), plus edits and remixes under the name of Fast Edit for B Diamond solo projects.

• He also has a collaboration project with French techno producer Krikor (from Kill the DJ), and a Dark Disco project with Pentile (from the Octet band on Diamond Traxx), first 12” released in June
• A new Pilooski 12” will be out on Krikors label in May
• A new Dirty Disco compilation is out in July featuring edits by Pilooski and Joakim on the Tigersushi label
• Also a CD compilation with all the dirty edits out September
