Sounds Like
The vast and varied American landscape and points unknown.
My mother made me move my "close n' play" out to the porch because I had played the Batman theme so many times she went insane...I was 6. She hasn't yet fully recovered. My next musical adventure was practicing my gun slingin' ans singin' to "Gunfighter Ballads & Trail Songs" by Marty Robbins. That album is still one of my all-time favorites. I remember going on vacation to Myrtle Beach in the early 70s. My sister and I would ride in the pop-up seat in the back of our rust colored Grand Torino station wagon listening to "Country Roads" on head phones my father had installed. My father must have been ahead of his time.
..
My first recording set-up consisted of two Panasonic portable tape recorders and a portable record player. I would take Hank Williams records that skipped and use the skipping portion of the record as a rhythm loop. I would set between the two recorders and alternate between the two recording and playing back that which was previously recorded. I could get 3 or 4 passes and come up with something that was a beautiful, hissing, musical mess. It was like magic.
