Frank Moon trained in composition at the Birmingham Conservatoire, and shortly after graduating with a first class Bmus in 2000 (winning the Bmus prize, the composition prize and the Bill Warman award for composition) began teaching composition and performance studies at Coventry University. This led to a full lecturing post as he became the youngest full time lecturer on the staff, teaching subjects ranging from 20th century history & contextual studies, analysis, performance studies, composition, jazz and improvisation. Alongside this Frank had time to score and MD four Shakespearean theatre commissions and several productions for contemporary dance, in addition to performing regularly with many varied ensembles.
Frank now works full time as a freelance musician. An accomplished and much in demand instrumentalist, he is currently confining himself to guitar, oud, electric bass, cittern, percussion, mandolin, banjo, and ukulele. His passion and in-depth knowledge of music from around the world have led him to work with a huge variety of ensembles, and tour in the UK, USA, Canada, Germany, Spain, Belgium, Holland and Poland. Equally at home in folk music, jazz, gypsy jazz, Balkan gypsy punk, Arabic, African and Indian fusion, Cuban son and salsa, hip hop, free improvisation, art noise, experimental multimedia performance art and accompanying singer songwriters or mediaeval choirs, Frank has a relentless appetite for good music in any style.
Some favourite highlights of the past few years include winning the Plasencia Folk prize with UFQ (Spain, 2009), touring the USA & Europe with Mediaeval Baebes, 3 Glastonbury festivals with The Destroyers, Cheltenham Jazz Festival with Steve Tromans’ Howl Band and Sid Peacock’s Surge, WOMAD festival with Se Tin Saba, the Steve Reich festival in Lyon and an Ikon Gallery installation with experimental gamelan group The Loop Orchestra, Shambala festival with The Bright Size Gypsies and the Frank Moon Desert Groove Band, composing for Cornish theatre companies Zenith and Cube, a UK tour with African funk band Jaantabi, playing live on Radio 1 with hip hop band The Substance Orchestra, and playing in a small vodka bar in Poland with Bev Lee Harling.

THE DIARY Volume 1.5 (20 Years of the Remix) now available for free download at WWW.MUSICOFSUBSTANCE.COM!
“This CD just shows how much Chris Read knows about historic Hip Hop production techniques - Its just a shame he wasn't creating this stuff during the eras he's covering as we would probably rate the man as being up there with Paul C, Pete Rock, Premier and all! - I can't think of another Hip Hop CD I've played so much in years” (ANDY SMITH - PORTISHEAD)
"Chris continues the rap anthology concept of his super-dope 'The Diary' megamix in the shape of a remix project, re-lacing acapellas from 89-2009 with historically accurate beats. 'The Diary 1.5' serves as a great platform for Chris to showcase his ample beat-making skills whilst referencing those who've inspired him." (DJ WOODY - FORMER WORLD ITF CHAMPION)
“Wicked! The perfect companion to The Diary Mixtape. Shows an impressive knowledge of sounds from all eras.” (MR THING - FORMER WORLD DMC CHAMPION)
"Crazy! This is Rap History in the making. Chris proves his production skills on this one to the fullest. A wonderful and refreshing journey through all eras of hip hop. Double thumbs up!" (MARC HYPE - FORMER ITF CHAMPION)
A duo between two of the worlds Free Improvisation/Free Jazz greats! The Pauls have a long association though the incredible improvising quartet Mujician and have played just about everywhere with just about everyone! For me this promises to be one of the outstanding improvisation gigs of 2009!

I'm gonna need a pretty big shoehorn. May even require lubrication to shoehorn that in. I'll see if I can squeeze it into my 12" inch. I might have to rap it. Do you have Dizzee Rascals number?
Yes, bit of a walk down memory lane! you know what I just googled 'Cadbury Road Moseley' and picked that picture out of from an estate agent, so probably not the same house, but close enough, and I thought about dropping Swanni into the lyric but couldn't think of a decent rhyme ehehe.
I'm in London again doing a free instore gig at the Rough Trade store on Feb 22nd and London Popfest at Brixton Jamm on 26th Feb and then on tour with The Boy Least Likely to with an uncomfirmed gig on 15th March.
