   About Frank Perry
Born in 1948 North London Began music in 1964 instinctive natural ability with jazz drumming Rhythm and Blues band 1965-66 Chicago Blues 1966-68 (Black Cat Bones with Paul Kossoff of FREE fame on lead guitar). Free-form Improvised music 1968-1974. From 1965 onwards interested in sound and ancient sacred religious musics. Also at that time I began a lifelong study of philosophy especially Far-Eastern spirituality. From 1968 began my interest in the healing aspect of sound and music. A natural-born truth-seeker, I am grateful for all aspects received. Co-founded Ovary Lodge (with Keith Tippett) and Balance (with Ian Brighton) 1971 began solo career and got first singing bowls. 1971/72 Frank Perry Trio with Evan Parker & Derek Bailey and also playing in Company and Derek Bailey Group early 70s Improvised meditation sacred percussion music 1974 up until now From the title of 'AMETHYST, GOLD & ROYAL BLUE, MY WAY OF SAYING THANK YOU (1972 - CD Himalayan Studies 5) where you will see that I'd already begun my work with colour and sound. During the days recording this album (Ovary Lodge RCA/Victor released 1973) and in the group duldrums I felt the need to create. Thankfully, producer Robert Fripp instructed the engineer to roll the tapes. So it is that we captured this first professionally recorded solo piece of mine - totally spontaneous and unscheduled in 1972. Not the usual sort of drum solo by any stretch of the imagination (except mine?). 1975/6 co-founded Tee-Pee with flautist David Toop. Fourth commercial solo release DEEP PEACE (1980 - CD DEEP PEACE MBM) on David Toop's Quartz! label You can listen to the first part here. First recorded in 1979 and then for this commercial release in 1980. My best seller with over 20,000 sales. STAR PEACE (1986 - CD Star Peace MBM) is a long piece with many sound-fields. It has 12 movements for the 12 Signs of the Zodiac. Here you can listen to the first 6 and part of 7. It was recorded on one microphone (UHJ-Surround Sound using Soundfield Microphone Mark 4 - more details on my website under White Temple recordings with links to more technical articles on other sites) in one single take in January of 1986. Nio 'mixing' or adjustments what you hear is exactly what was played. In this sample you can hear the sound of the Petalumines created from PAISTE 2002 thick metal that I invented in 1979. I have appeared on over 100 album releases (LP,MC,CD). I have collected around 700 instruments (or mostly metallophones) upon which I strive to create meditative music of silence and mystery alongside extended vocal techniques (Mongolian overtone singing and Tibetan Tantric - undertone - singing/chanting). That is 45 gongs and around 290 Tibetan singing bowls and another 350 bells of various types and ages. There are also instruments that I have invented and hand-built myself mostly out of the PAISTE bell metal - Petalumines, Pyrahermeezees, Pyrotahermeezees, Ufoms, Trianguhermeezees, Spirotapetals, Sun Rays (plus some others awaiting time to make). You can hear these on the first clip - CHENREZIG - Sound and Light Spirits over Tibet (2004 - CD Himalayan Studies 2). No electronics of any kind have been added here - what you hear are the pure sounds themselves albeit played somewhat unconventionally. You can view them in my picture gallery here. RE-INCORPORATION (1993 - CD Planetary Peace) is a piece for my 40-odd gongs plus a few cymbals recorded in 1993. You can listen to the first two-thirds of it here. I had been due to co-create an album with Mike Trim (owner of studio and ISIS Records). All he said during the sessions was "I thought you could do a gong piece". With 40-odd gongs I guess I could. I co-created it with my spirit brother Anthony instead. He was two years older than me but died only a few weeks old. He is also a percussionist where he resides. This is part of a two-disc set of my 'Planets Suite' (Belovodye) and this track is for the planet Saturn. AWAKENS THE 5 TREASURES OF MT KANCHENJUNGA (1993 - CD Ancient Tibetan Initiation Bowls) was recorded at this same time and is from the second volume of Belovodye - you can listen to it here in its entirety - Tibetan singing bowls & Tingshag & Shamanic Overtone Singing. No eletronics are ever used in my music. What you hear are the acoustic sounds of these instruments - sometimes played unconventionally. The more recent piece THE SPIRIT OF H.H.PANCHEN LAMA SHINES BRIGHTLY THROUGH THE DARKNESS is dedicated to this youngest of political prisoners whilst the CD from which it is taken (TIBETAN PEACE) is dedicated to the freedom of the Tibetan people to follow their own true Path. You can find out more and hear more recent soundbites on my website and you can view more videos on youtube where you can find me under 'mountainbellmusic'. You may also listen to more of my overtone pieces on OMN network.

Alien Graffiti's Electric Toothbrush

Hi Frank, ever wanted to know how it sounds like when an electric toothbrush is penetrating an electric guitar running through a full blown Marshall amp?

Now you can! Alien Graffitti takes part in the Yello 'Bostich' remix contest on Beatport (the leader in electronic dance music downloads for DJs and club music enthusiasts).

The Alien Graffiti remix is called
BOSTICH GOES ROCK|Not What You Expected.

The intro sounds like a machine, but indeed it's an electric toothbrush and my green monster guitar. I also added some real played electric guitars, right hand tapping and a mongolian horse head fiddle to that milestone in electronic music from 1984. Want to compare it to the original Bostich version on youtube?

I hope you like my remix and if you want to support Alien Graffiti in this contest, you can register with beatport and after logging in, please come back to my remix to "Spin it!" (which is the same as voting).

Thanks for your support!
