My Nanny, who passed away Feb. 28 2006. She fought harder, and loved harder than anyone I've ever seen. My mother, for being so strong when nobody else could or would. Bruce Lee, cause he kicked ass. My wife, for so many things.
About me: Hello, I am Frank Pryor. I am a Texas born Record Producer/Engineer, Songwriter, Multi-Instrumentalist, and all around pretty nice guy. I am also a father and a husband. I first got the urge to make music around 1985....the first time I saw the movie "Purple Rain". Prince is the ultimate musician, showman. and accomplished songwriter, and he inspired me to first pick up a guitar. My interest in music really blossomed in the late 1980's, with all the "guitar gods" guiding my path. By the time I was 14 years old, I had begun playing in various bands, developing my chops and getting schooled in the business that is music. In junior high school, I was considered a loser by most....but by the time I got to high school, things were looking up for me. The 90's grunge era had taken over, and all of the sudden I could play most of these songs effortlessly. It really helped me survive high school to have something that defined me...my ability to rawk. I have to admit, I was somewhat disgusted during the grunge era by bands like Nirvana...because suddenly all the years that I had been learning those fancy guitar licks meant nothing....but now I realize the genius in the simplicity. After high school, I became very interested in the art of recording music. I pursued a Commercial Music degree at Texarkana College with an emphasis on recording, all the while playing, singing, etc. in various bands around town. In 1998, I took an internship at Smart Productions under the guidance of award winning Producers/Engineers Chip Bricker and Greg White, and began learning some of the tricks of the trade. Shortly after, Chip hired me on full time as an engineer and post-production guy. This was the opportunity of a lifetime for me because it enabled me to be around amazing musicians all the time, learn the business, develop my skills as a recording engineer, and defy the odds....(actually make a living in the music industry!!!) In 2003 I partnered with a longtime friend of mine and opened a live music venue. This was another huge development in my music career, because it awarded me the opportunity to run sound for hundreds of bands, including some pretty well know acts. By 2004, I was pretty well finished playing in bands that traveled all the time. I began focusing on my own songwriting and studio work more. I landed songwriting publishing deal with B.S.I. Publishing and had some success getting some of my songs sold, and licensed for different artists' albums. In 2006, I started my own publishing company, F.A.P. Publishing, and signed the experimental rock band A Pacific Model. With their album, I negotiated several licenses for films and web tv and learned a great deal about that end of the music business. In late 2006, I was promoted to Studio Manager at Smart Productions, as well as handling the majority of Recording/Production duties. I have had the opportunity to work with some amazing people along the way, and I am fortunate to have been able to provide for my beautiful family in this suffering music industry. So far, artist's I've produced and engineered for have been nominated for Grammy Awards and Dove Awards, as well as making it as far as finalists on American Idol and Nashville Star. If you are interested in setting up some studio time with me, or have any questions...please don't hesitate to call me at 903.792.8590. I'll do my best to bring out the best in you, and provide you with a recording that will make you relevant in your genre.
