hi, my name is Fraser Campbell. I'm from Perth, Scotland and am a 22 year old saxophonist and composer. I started saxophone at the age of 14, studying first with Philip Alexander and then also with Tommy Smith. At the age of 17, I received a scholarship to attend Berklee College of music. Previous to Berklee, I'd also been a member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland, Fife Youth Jazz Orchestra and the Tommy Smith Youth Jazz Orchestra. I completed my degree in Performance and Jazz Composition at Berklee (Summa cum Laude) in September 2007.
While at Berklee, I had the amazing opportunity to study with teachers such as George Garzone, Joe Lovano, Hal Crook, Greg Hopkins, Phil Wilson, Ed Tomassi, Frank Tiberi, Mitch Haupers and many others. I received a Dewar Arts Award from the Scottish Arts Council after my first year at the college and also won the Quincy Jones award from the Harmony Department at the college for Composition and Performance.
I'm also a member of the group "Secret Architecture" - featuring Zach Mangan on Drums and Ilan Bar-Lavi on Guitar. We toured America's Midwest in June 2007, opening for Happy Apple and The Gang Font and in February 2008 we did a tour of Scotland followed by a gig in Brooklyn, NY and the recording of our first album together in March 2008. It should be released in late summer, early autumn.
