Tim Freeman, Kate Holmes, Michelle Allardyce, Chris Taplin. Although the final album was Tim by himself.
Influences
Totally unique but if I ever find their influences I'll add them here...
Sounds Like
Very few other bands ever really captured the sound or feeling that Frazier Chorus did but the closest would probably be 'The Beloved', Prefab Sprout or maybe early Lightning Seeds although recently I discovered a band from the 90s called 'The Indian Givers'-(dont Google them as you'll probably find the other band with the same name and they definitely do not sound like FC) who had sort of similar ideas.
Originally a four-piece (and I think they were originally called Plop!), Frazier Chorus released "Sloppy Heart" on 4AD in 1987. Shortly afterwards they moved to Virgin Records, and achieved success with a string of melodic pop songs about Dream Kitchens, Happy Eaters and Little Chefs, all taken from their 1989 debut album, Sue.
Their second album 'Ray' was produced by Ian Broudie and most of the singles from this album were remixed into indie-dance tracks by a number of top remixers, including Paul Oakenfold, Chad Jackson and Youth. The band were then restyled from the fey indie pop band of 1989 into an act more like The Beloved.
Singer Tim Freeman released a third album billed as Frazier Chorus (Wide Awake) in 1996, which did not reach the UK Albums Chart as it was released years after Ray on a small indie label, whilst Kate Holmes descended into pseudo electronica via the bands Technique and Client.
There was one more release of rarities and outtkes called... wait for it... 'Monkey Spunk' but this was a fan club only release and is very difficult to find.
There is a great quote inside the sleeve from Tim where he explains that he tried to... "write and record songs that yer average crossword-completing Durutti Column fan could enjoy" Mmmmmm,,,
Just been on Oasis-discovering legend Alan McGee's page (http://www. myspace. com/deathdiscolondon) and he's posted FC's 'Cloud Eight' vid there. That was an unexpected treat .. R.
My favourite band for quite a while back in my college days! I'd like to see some B-sides up on the player - I always liked 'String'. Also Paul Oakenfold's mix of 'Cloud 8' would be good to hear. R.
What an honour it is to have the first comment on this criminally under-rated bands page. I've had dream kitchen on my profile for a few days now, what a classic, it still sounds brand new as does everything Frazier Chorus did. It'll never sound dated. Any chance of re-forming then? Thanks for the add :)
