The fire and passion of a young Carlos Santana on Piano meets R&B & Classical roots
“Considered one of the most outstanding keyboard players, composers, and producers in contemporary music, Freddie Ravel has recorded and performed with many icon artists including Earth Wind & Fire, Phil Collins, Quincy Jones, Madonna, Al Jarreau, The Boston Pops and Prince.” –Universal Music
Born in Los Angeles with South American and European roots, the bi-lingual Ravel began a fascination for music at age five going on to study jazz and classical composition at California State University Northridge, graduating with full cum laude honors. Soon afterward, Freddie established himself as a top studio artist being acknowledged by The Hollywood Reporter as “one of L. A.’s truly great keyboardists.” Contemporary jazz audiences are best aware of the composer/keyboardist from his two popular previous recordings, 1991’s Midnight Passion and 1996’s Sol to Soul—enduring radio favorites that still receive recurrent airplay. In 2001, his third Universal release, Freddie Ravel scored “Sunny Side Up” the ..1-in-the-USA hit, which continues to dominate the airwaves. Slated for release in Summer 2005, his upcoming album is entitled “Intuneition".
The multi-platinum composer’s ability to blend and mix musical styles garnered him collaborations with such top music-industry luminaries as Quincy Jones, Sergio Mendes, Tony Bennett and Bobby McFerrin. In the 1993 Earth Wind and Fire release, Millennium, Mr. Ravel co-produced the group’s very first venture into Mambo, “Honor the Magic”. When five-time Grammy vocalist Al Jarreau sought to connect to the Latin world, Freddie delivered the legendary singer’s first foray into Salsa resulting in the internationally acclaimed title track and Universal release, Tomorrow Today. Madonna contacted Freddie for her first exploration into the music of Argentina which led to performances on the motion picture Evita as well as MTV appearances with the pop diva and a featured piano solo for her sizzling remix of “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina”.
In addition to his contemporary music, Ravel’s symphonic works have received rave reviews from appearances as guest composer and pianist with the seventy-piece California Philharmonic Orchestra.
From the Sultan of Brunei to the King of Thailand, the temples of Kyoto to the palaces of Delhi, Mr. Ravel’s passion for bridging world cultures through music has led to over two decades of international acclaim. With the creation of his interactive performance event, Tune Up to Success™, Freddie reveals that music is an intuitive multitasking power tool that can better peoples’ lives.
