About the three songs from the CD "Snakebite And Valentine":
I'LL SWEAR I'M NOT IN LOVE WITH YOU - another way of saying "I love you" . IT WON'T BE ME - fantasizing the return of a lover. MIDNIGHT FUGUE - A woman sings Blues to start, followed by the soliloquy of a man imagining a one-night stand with a woman at a far table
From the CD "No Other Prize":
CAT LULLABY - when a favorite cat was put to sleep.
A new song is now added here, not on the music player, but as a link to a music video. Its name is Earth Anthem, and it's a musical tribute to the Earth around us that we inherited from our ancestors and which we owe to our children:
Earth Anthem
Additional biographic information: Fred Moolten is a songwriter working primarily in the Folk and Blues genres with occasional forays into Country and Jazz. The songs of his two early albums, "The Way We Are" (2000) and "Moonlit River" (2004) have been widely acclaimed - ("irresistible", "mesmerizing" - Michael Allison, The Global Muse; "original, poetic and touching; happy or sorrowful, they each have a certain poignancy which makes them memorable" - Jenny Ivors, Rambles). His newest releases, "No Other Prize" and "Snakebite And Valentine", take him one step further toward recognition as among the finest working in these genres today. With both his earlier efforts and now his latest, a common theme among reviewers as well as other music lovers is the evocative power of a Fred Moolten song; listeners hear echoes of their own experiences in ways that can be so intensely personal that it almost comes as a surprise to them that someone else once felt the same way. The song "Cat Lullaby", played above, epitomizes this attribute ("this song is special to me" - Van, MP3 Artist Archives). Many similar sentiments expressing this kind of "specialness" can be found in Comments on this site, including some of startling eloquence.
Something of an anomaly among contemporary songwriters, Fred Moolten is not a performer. "I can barely scrape by on the piano", he says, but adds that "paradoxically, this limitation has its advantages. In particular, since I won't be singing my own songs, my imagination is free to write from both a male and female perspective, as might a novelist or playwright. I'm also very lucky and grateful to have found superb male and female singers and performers to record the songs".
