Sounds Like
Songs written in my own little world while taking inspiration from all over the musical spectrum. What tends to happen though is music that lies somewhere between Tom Waits and Woody Guthrie. Sounds like country-jazz-blues-folk-ballad singalong-freakpop-slightlyoutoftune-improvised-desert music. Got it?
Free Bananas began as a trio in the summer of 2005, rocking the cover songs out in the streets.
Currently, we still rock, putting our hearts and souls into our own brand of folk music--one steeped in old-time jazz and blues, with just enough cowboy country. We play in the moment--you just never know what is going to happen. Come see our live show!
The Oregon Voice magazine says:
"Weeks brings all kinds of percussion and noisemakers to his album, layering kazoo, harmonica, flute, shakers, and multiple vocal tracks. His lyrics are sparse and the full, round sound of a double bass bellows in the background to complete the folky and worldly, nicely grounded with just-the-right-amount-of-banter-about-pancakes music."
The Mastan Music Hour - http://www.mastanmusic.com/podcast - says:
"Aside from his voice, his one man band act featured acoustic guitar, banjo, kazoo, stand up bass, and his personable stage demeanor....His music is tinged with an old time hue and he even wears a suit when he performs."
Happy Thanksgiving Steven, Matt, and Dylan! Hope you are all well and enjoying your time down South. Let's have some drinks when you come back into town.
Hope you two boys made it to California safe. Please avoid Siskiyou Pass around Southern Oregon. I will miss you guys and can't wait til' you bring Mr. Matt back through Eugene. Stay in touch and happy traveling!
Wow, look at all those upcoming gigs! I hope you have some LA/SD ones in Jan or Feb. I'm gonna be in the southern hemisphere during all these gigs. Unless you get an LA gig on Nov 6, 7, or 8th. :)
How did I not know about this Oct 3rd CD release party? Hmmmm...??? Hopefully now that we're "friends" I'll know about more upcoming shows. Will there be more??
Yo Free bananas, we invite you to Volifonix's Spring Halloween Party on this Friday because you are cool! Hide your goodies well because this show is for all ages. We'll start playing at Midnight.
Hi Steven! it's Dave! Cafe Coco tomorrow?! I'd be listening to your music and telling you it sounds great, but I'm in a coffee shop where that might be rude...
