Did you say that the Dallas music here is free, come and get it, or did you sound a cry for the liberation of Dallas’ indigenous musicians? And if you said that the music here is free, do you mean produced at no cost to the public, the listeners, with no obligation on the players, with no allegiance to any external arbiter of taste? Could you be referring to songs played by free - thinking musicians unencumbered by media definitions and store-bought self-importance? Perhaps also an artistic atmosphere in which originality weighs heavier than clever uses of old formulae. Where deviation is more interesting than derivation. Music that’s part of the journey of song, born in a soul, urged on by a fearless heart and blown forward by our collective desire for new ideas and sounds. About Free Dallas Music ! Songwriters Open Mic

OUR LAST SHOW WAS NOVEMBER 20, 2008.
Free Dallas Music! Songwriter's Open Mic is a finished work. We met at at Half Price Books (In the Community Room) on Northwest Highway Dallas, TX every First and Third Thursdays from 7 to 9 PM. for almost 3 years. That was almost 70 shows and over 600 performances. It was a great run!
Half Price Books is no longer allowing groups to reserve the Community Room so Free Dallas Music! Songwriter's Open Mic is finished. THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO PARTICIPATED! Tom & Jenni

The Free Dallas Music! Songwriter's Open Mic is a community service intended to allow local songwriters the opportunity to perform and perfect their material and allow listeners to hear something new.

FREE DALLAS MUSIC! SONGWRITER'S OPEN MIC is all about the SONGS. If you have some great songs you love to perform, it doesn't matter who wrote 'em! We honor the singers as well as songwriters because they keep those great songs alive.
Free Dallas Music! Songwriter's Open Mic started in February 2006.

*** Featured Performers at Free Dallas Music! Songwriter's Open Mic ***
Free Dallas Music! Songwriter’s Open Mic is held every First and Third Thursday at Half Price Books in Dallas TX. Participants sign up to play a three song set in turn with the other players. Once a month on the First Thursday, we feature a (typically) local songwriter selected to showcase their talent for the listening community. The Featured Performer plays an extended set of around 6 songs. As always, it is still an open mic for those players who show up and sign up that night. The selection of Featured Performers is made by the producers based on performance factors. If you would like to be considered for a featured performer slot at an upcoming show, please let us know. We feature players we have seen perform in person. If we haven't yet caught your act, signing up and playing at FDM!SOM is a way for us to see you - we're nearly always part of the audience.

I am disapointed to hear that yall had to stop going. For along time I came every Thursday night and it was a big part of my music life when I played gigs. I just wanted to say hi to all and tell everyone that I'm going to miss them and thanks for being such a big part of my music life I won't forget yall.
