Free Dem Sound Outanational is a reggae-based sound system originating in Sydney, Australia as a late-night radio show. It all started one day with King David and Josh Dread who went out and bought two turntables, a box of 7" dubplates and a microphone. Today its core comprises selectors Lofty the Lion and Slingshot (aka King David). Free Dem Sound’s core philosophy is Word, Sound & Power and we seek to open people all around the world to the positive vibration derived from the Jamaican sound and culture. Free Dem Sound ran a program on Sydney’s Radio Skid Row (88.9fm) for two years from 2003-05, and have played out in various venues in the city. Lofty the Lion caught onto the vibe back in 2004 when J Dread decided to embark on his own musical endeavour. Lofty's enthusiasm for reggae, dub and dancehall took Free Dem Sound out to the live arena organising such shows as 'Break Down Babylon' and 'Free Dem Sound Strikes Back' & 'Dancehall Radical', and has been an inspiration to many people, including Slingshot. Free Dem Sound now has its tentacles reaching into China with Slingshot's recent move into the capital Beijing. Slingshot assists at developing a reggae movement in the Chinese capital, Lofty the Lion continues to represent Free Dem Sound Outanational in its hometown of Sydney, Australia.
