~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Freedown has become a group with several very diverse attitudes and tastes in music. The rare times when Freedown finds a unanimously accepted band yield such greats as Weezer and Muse. Each member found their roots in music in their respective school orchestras, which is a fact unique to Freedown. Incidentally, each member has grown to learn the importance of music in any genre and style. Though they all may not like certain types of music, they all recognize that music is what connects us, as people, to the world and universe around us. Music is the true sixth sense, and without it our lives would mean nothing but existence.
Beginning in Tyler's basement with a horrible First-Act guitar and a step-dad's Tama Granstar drumset, seventh-graders Danny and Tyler never would have guessed that two guys like Ian and Dan would join their after-school jams. Ian started up around eighth grade after a few guitar lessons and the trio would jam instrumental versions of songs like "Back in Black" and "The Hey Song." After a year of this, the primordial soup of Freedown decided what it needed was a bass. So when Dan bought one and he began to learn at an incredible pace, it was hard to deny the potential of the group.
At this point Tyler was nothing but a choir boy. However, when the ancestral Freedown realized the necessity of vocals, Tyler worked to hone in his voice to an acceptable rock sound. Stuck on the dismal emulation of Robert Plant for a while, he eventually found what he needed. In the summer of Freshman year the band had many practices and casual discussions of where to go next, not to mention the long cycle of name changes. After ridiculous titles such as "The Media," "Avian Paradise," and "Airframe," the band finally settled on the sound of "Freedown." This name came up after Ian accidentally combined the titles of songs "Freedom" and "Down Rodeo," two songs by Rage Against the Machine. "Freedown" was unanimous and the band was nearly complete.
Freedown came a long way since then and, for a very exciting first gig, opened for Scott Holt in Woodruff in March of 2008. Scott Holt is the former guitarist for legend and Rock-Hall-of-Famer, Buddy Guy, and now resides in Nashville. Due to a scheduling error of a trip to Italy, Dan was unable to join in on this experience in March, so Zach Degregorio filled in for him. Because he performed so well and gave so much constructive creative input, Freedown invited Zach to be the fifth and final member of the band. He currently plays rhythm guitar, but is open to play anything and everything else (he's multitalented).
With the addition of Zach, Freedown opened up many creative doors for themselves. They now have a very versatile, varied set of originals and covers which spans nearly two hours with breaks. Freedown delivers a performance unlike most with their show-stopping signature, "The Devil Went Down to Georgia." A crowd-pleaser for all ages and tastes, this well-known cover demonstrates the versatility of both the Freedown and the violin alike. Freedown is open for any and all events, and is more than willing to deliver.
Freedown doesn't have any studio recordings available yet, but while they arrange a demo with Whitehouse Records, you can watch the videos taken of them from their gig in Woodruff, WI. Enjoy!
