Freek Johnson is not your grandfathers jazztheir fans describe their sound as eclectic, tight, controlled chaos, and highly caffeinated. Influenced by the likes of Thelonious Monk, Weather Report, John McLaughlin, Ravi Shankar, and Stevie Wonder, you never know what the Freek will come up with on any given night. Going on their 9th year as a group, the Freek has built a hard-core, diverse fan base in Indiana and Illinois. Freek fans are willing to travel anywhere to escape the ordinary musical offerings most venues showcase. Each Freek member, a master player in his own right, has over 20 years of experience as jazz instructors and performers. Together, they create completely original compositions guaranteed to please old-school and new-school music fans. The Freek and its members have graced the stages of the Vic Theatre, Double Door, The Green Mill, The Backroom, and Andys, and were a regular feature at the Naughty Grapes for over two years. Live and studio CDs as well as press kits are available.
