Freeplay Music is pleased to announce that we have begun an exciting collaboration with BYkids, a unique non-profit organization that pairs master American filmmakers with youth (ages 8-21) from around the world to mentor the child in creating a short documentary about his or her life.
BYkids selects children's stories for their international relevance. All BYkids documentaries carry the universal values of courage, perseverance and dignity, and illuminate critical global issues from a perspective rarely told in mainstream media. BYkids seeks to change the way Americans see the world - and the way the world sees America - by using the power of film as a tool for global understanding and a catalyst for action.
BYkids: MOZAMBIQUE is the first film being done by 16-year-old Alcides Soares, who was orphaned by AIDS last year. The editor, Michael Schweitzer, won the best editing award last year at Sundance for Nanking. Neal Baer, Emmy-nominated executive producer of the NBC series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and ER has arranged for Alcides to come to LA in August to do an intensive English program so he can narrate his own film. He will also work closely with the editor in the editing room.
In celebration of the new BYkids production BYkids: MOZAMBIQUE, we cut several Freeplay tracks over the film trailer as a preview of our music-search offerings and upcoming collaboration with BYkids. The musical selections overlayed in the Freeplay mini-trailer each complement the boldness and stark poignancy of the film.

Introducing the Freeplay Music "All In Your Head" Music Lover's Survey!
This fall, we set off in search of the answer to the question confronted daily by radio DJ's around the world, namely, "What are people listening to?" Each week on our MySpace and Facebook pages, we'll post the profile of a different person we met while they listened to their mp3 player. We then determine the listener's musical taste and send a selection from the Freeplay Music Indie Artist catalogue as a "thank you" for participating in our survey. Check out the "All In Your Head Survey" from Freeplay Music, and stay tuned for a plethora of great original music from up-and-coming Indie Artists to keep your airwave senses stimulated. Yesenia Anolmole (above) hails from Colombia and enjoys listening to KT Tunstall on her iPod. We met her on 51st street and Broadway in midtown Manhattan. For Yesenia we recommended the Freeplay Indie Artist title "No More," by Debra Davis, off the album Angels In The Attic . "No More" is a driving pop-rock track with a hypnotic bluegrass-tinged vibe accented by mandolin arpeggios and heavy rhtyhm guitars. Stay tuned for next week's "All In Your Head" profile, where we'll introduce another participant and provide another featured selection from our Indie Artists catalog!

Evelyn Reynoso (above) from the Bronx, NY was listening to Panic At The Disco on her iPod when interviewed for the Freeplay Music "All In Your Head" survey. For Evelyn we recommended the Freeplay Indie Artist title "Just One Kiss," by Churton, off the album Churton . "Just One Kiss" is a gleeful track that glides leisurely along a lively beat like a summer day, with colorful guitar melodies intertwine to a bright, graceful rhythm. Stay tuned for next week's "All In Your Head" profile, where we'll introduce another participant and provide another featured selection from our Indie Artists catalog!

Dawana Holloway (above) from Brooklyn, NY was listening to Cassie's "Me and You" on her iPod when interviewed for the Freeplay Music "All In Your Head" survey.
For Dawana we recommended the Freeplay Indie Artist title "Human Nature," by Shayna Zaid, off the album Beyond Borders. "Human Nature" has a sweet and jubilant tone, with an offbeat male vocal vibrato/hand-clap sample the provides the steady rhythmic foundation for a sentimental and singable chorus.

We met Grace McClean (above) on 51st street and Broadway in midtown Manhattan. When interviewed, Grace was listening to Gabriel Kahane on her iPod. For Grace we recommended the Freeplay Indie Artist title "Her Soul's Okay," by Jordan Allen, off the album Mistakes, Regrets and Coffee. "Her Soul's Okay" is a soft and sentimental track that swoons with emotive grace. A peaceful vocal solo complements a stately piano progression.
