About me: A friend and I were at Acquire the Fire and we heard this man start speaking about problems in the world that need our help to be solved, and one of these was the issue of sex slaves in Thailand and how we can help free them. This is a really horrible problem. As the man spoke both my friend and I felt that this was something we had to do. Later, when we realized that both of us had felt this, we decided it was not a coincidence, and we had to do something.
Here are some statistics of sex slavery in Thailand:
There are an estimated 800,000 to 2 million forced prostitutes in Thailand today. Of these, twenty percent are 18 or younger, while some are as young as 5 years old. These children are either sold by their parents, who desperately need money, or are lured by promises of different jobs, such as waitressing. However, once they arrive at the brothels, they are forced into prostitution. They are forced to serve 10-20 men every day and endure all sorts of physical and mental abuse, including threats of revenge and even death. Some of the younger children may not understand what is happening at first and try to resist. They are beaten and sometimes even killed.
This is a growing problem. Team H.O.P.E.(Helping Other People Everyday) recognizes and wishes to put a stop to this. Together we can make a difference. Let's abolish slavery!
