‘Shooting Stars' is the debut album by Australian / British duo Freewinder - Russell Chandler (instrumentation, arrangements) and Clive Godwin (lyrics, arrangements) who, five years ago, discovered a shared love of music whilst working together in London. The pair soon realised their fusion of creative, musical and production talents could be the start of something special. On ‘Shooting Stars' they feature the pure and effortless vocals of US based Kara Grainger whose own solo career has garnered Radio 2 support and finalist status in Billboard's international song writing competition.
Described by Q Magazine as “serene”, the album is a collection of part acoustic chill out and part singer-songwriter confessional. Light and airy on its surface, the record is underpinned by Clive's heartfelt and intelligent lyrics and Russell's deft instrumentation. The title track ‘Shooting Stars', a bright and feel-good song, has been picked up by Radio 2's Steve Wright whose colleague Johnnie Walker previously championed the Bowie inspired ‘David Jones'.
Lyrically each song paints a perfect picture and there is definitely more to this album than just "boy meets girl". From album opener ‘Sirens' based upon Greek mythology, to ‘California', a hippy inspired groove with a Balearic undercurrent, the eclectic mix of songs is perfectly balanced by Kara's intimate vocals.
In addition to national exposure on BBC Radio 2, Freewinder have secured plays on around 30 regional UK radio stations including 21 playlists. What started out as a couple of mates playing guitar has evolved into a remarkable innovative project. Influenced by the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan and Coldplay, this unique album oozes emotive lyrics and inspirational arrangements. With absorbing melodies sustained by enticing grooves the airwaves will belong to Freewinder, from the i-Pods of the city to the sunset beaches of Ibiza.
