At age 16 Rox*’s father purchased a Roland XP-80. He toyed with it out of curiosity and discovered that he had a talent for creating. His natural understanding of the sound of the streets translated through electronic sounds began a lifelong passion. After a couple of years of discovering what he wanted to accomplish, a short stay in the US Air Force and a move to Japan, Rox* decided that his sound was ready for the masses.
He teamed up with some local talent in Japan and quickly put together a sound, a fan base and a bunch of gigs around the Tokyo area. Life circumstances beyond his control had people come and go and the team folded. In 2003, he decided to put some more technical knowledge behind his natural ability and attended the Institute of Audio Research in New York, where he graduated with flying colors.
With his new found knowledge, he returned to Japan and set out to redefine himself and his sound. Fre Gen Productions was born. Known more for his performing than his production, Rox* teamed up with independent recording artists IZ and began to build a bridge to success. In 2005, they paired him with R&B singer Lady May and the two cut a song together called “Be Alright”. The song made its way into the offices of Sony Records, Japan and a buzz started. Such that he was subsequently featured on 5 songs on Lady May’s upcoming solo release.
Disenfranchised with drama, divas and distance from the source, Rox* returned to NY. He is something different. Something new. Check for him. When asked what his plans are Rox* says, "I’m going hard. Truth. I need every mixtape rapper in NY to know my name. I want buzz like a rapper off of beats. Tell ’em I’m comin’. I’m not playin’."
