  • Bio

Fremont John, joined by Michael Carden on percussion, just completed recording of a new CD entitled “Guitar Songs” Guitar Songs consists of 9 original instrumentals and a cover of Santana's "Europa". "Europa" features former Clapton bassist, Fernando Saunders. "This track may blow your socks clean off your feet and straight into the wash!" There're several excellent tracks on the CD! This is John's first time engineering a CD. It’s a CD of many firsts for John; first all-instrumentals, first w/ no drum kit, mostly no bass. It contains his first finger-style composition, “Peace”. GUITAR SONGS was pre-released to fans on 12/01/09. Official release of the album is yet to be scheduled but is likely to be spring, 2010. More About Fremont John 100+ Gigs Booked through Sonicbids! Artist Information Biography FREMONT JOHN BIO “Acoustic Thunder, No Bull” is the title of the article written about Fremont John 10 years ago after he first moved to Key West to start his new life as a full-time singer, guitarist and songwriter. “Acoustic Thunder” seems an apt nickname for this dynamic yet humble bar singer. A short time later came the “Acoustic Thunder CD” and packing them in night after night at The Bull in Key West with Fremont John's “Acoustic Thunder Band”. But, having grown tired of the constraints and remoteness of island living, John and wife, Margi left Key West for the Florida Gulf Coast settling in Sarasota in 2005. John now tours continuously throughout the state of Florida and beyond, playing over 200 shows each year. Unique to entertainers in Florida, Fremont John refrains from adding Jimmy Buffet or Trop Rock songs to his repertoire under the premise that “the last thing Florida needs is one more guy playing Jimmy Buffet tunes.” As his original music becomes more known to the folks attending his performances it has begun to take up more time in his shows. The remaining repertoire consists of carefully chosen Classic Rock and Blues covers which, are then rearranged to assuage his creative craving and to make them his own. This stubborn individualist, a self-proclaimed “Contrarian”, has endeared himself to Florida's residents and tourists alike becoming one of the most renown and respected solo performers in the state. A DJ at Tampa's WMNF, recently introduced him on air as a Florida legend. John has been written up in almost every paper from Key West to Tampa. His fan base reaches across the USA and to many parts of the globe thanks to his tenure in Key West and his diligent online networking. “He sings like a man on a mission of purpose!" says Edgar Struble, Music Director for the 2008 Country Music Awards. A TAXI reviewer recently wrote of John's original tunes, “his songs…show a vast understanding of writing, arranging, and overall musical wisdom.” Neil Young included John's song about our soldiers in Iraq, "Devil's Dune" on his web site “Living with War Today”. John emceed the famous Key West Songwriter Festival, sharing the stage with some of Nashville's top songwriters including Mark Selby “Blue on Black” and Grammy winner, Tia Sillers “I Hope You Dance”. Wowing NYC record producer Larry Baeder with his songwriting led to the 2006 indie CD release, "Timeline" with, Baeder producing. A national radio campaign for "Timeline" resulted in FM airplay in many cities while global airplay came via hundreds of Internet stations. Two songs from the CD, "No Pity On Me" and "Devil's Dune”, were semi-finalists in the 2006 Dallas Songwriters Assn. songwriting contest. His consistent gigging earned him the #1 Top-booked artist spot on SonicBids.com touting over 100,000 member artists! He has also been a featured pre-game performer at Tropicana Field for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays for two years running. Along with regular gigging, Winter 2009 will find him in the studio recording a much anticipated solo guitar CD of original works. That will be closely followed by a full production CD “Contrarian” due for Spring release. He returns to his hometown of Ludington Michigan to perform with former bandmates as part of the West Shore Community College Performing Arts Series. ....Stream videos at Ustream.. ........ .. ........................ ................ ........ ........ ........ .. .. .... ....Spread the word with a Banner. One CD, tentatively titled "SHUT-UP & PLAY!" is an all instrumental guitar CD that I'm doing by popular request. The other CD, to be entitled "CONTRARIAN", will be comprised of at least, 12 songs including 6 brand new originals and 6 of Fremont John's most requested cover tune arrangements. The rhythm tracks were recorded at Private Ear Studio in Key West with Richard Crooks (David Bromberg, Bob Dylan, Dr. John, Paul Simon) returning on drums and Ivan Bodley (Cracked Ice, Sam Cooke) making his first recording appearance with Fremont John. Bubba Lownotes also plays bass appearing on 3 tunes. Hey Chaz, I've about given up on MS.  Geez, your comment was in June and I'm finally responding in Oct.  So sorry!  No plans for Tarpon Spgs at this point.  I still play Key West every month and then, I'm mostly between St. Pete and Ft. Myers.  All the b est to you, FJ

Hi, and thank you for writing and for your compliments.  I do appreciate it.  I don't come to MySpace much anymore.  I do my status comments on ReverbNation and it connects to MS, FB & Twitter.  You're right MS has changed and it has become a site where it seems like musicians are spamming musicians.  It really lost it's attraction for me.  I do more on FB.  You just can't do all the sites.  Anyway, I look forward to meeting you sometime.  I'm at Cha Cha Coconuts on the pier in St. Pete every other Thur.. That's about all I do in the immediate Tampa Bay area.  I'll make a point to check out your site.  Best,  FJ

Looks like you haven't been commented on for 11 months. LOL. I know how it is, ever since myspace changed, it is taking a PHD to understand how to use this site anymore! Found you on twitter through my friend Pete Gallagher, and now am a fan.  Been writing music my whole life, performing etc, and rarely had the time to go and hear others music.  But since myspace, facebook, and all the other sites, have enjoyed discovering all the great artists out there. I LOVE Jazz, and finding your site and music is a great blessing. But what is even more cool, is that you work and live in the same area as me, so I know that I will be able to fit a show in someday and hear you live. I am involved in many festivals, following the Folk Americana scene, and have been well received in Florida.  My music is very different than yours, but that is what makes my compliment so awesome!  LOL.  Coming from a Celtic Country Folk Rock genre to listen to your Jazzy take on Blues and Rock is quite a switch, so, enjoy the adoration while it lasts. LOL.  Well, gotta run, my husband plays bass for TC and The Troublemakers, and I need to go wake him up for his show.  Then I am off to see and hear Ronny Elliott tonight at Kojaks in Palmetto. Pete Gallagher runs the Florida Folk Show there.  My husband Vinny and I play there on Wednesday nights with our Rock N Roll Review Show, unplugged acoustic.  It is our date night, as we are both going in different directions all week.  Not bad for 38 years together!  Catch up with you soon.  Love and Light Always, Norine Mungo
