I am MANTIS, aka Travis J. Smith, a producer/songwriter of electronic music! Using synthesizers, loop stations, guitar, and effects, I create trippy but optimistic electronica in my basement studio located in Portland, Oregon. Sometimes my music is danceable, sometimes it’s more just for chillin’... I release my music on my own independent record label, FRESH BLEND RECORDS, and hope to be recruiting other artists in the near future! When I perform my songs live in the clubs and lounges, I do a lot of beat matching, harmonic mixing and mashing, lots of filters, and special effects along with some other tricks! In general I’m just trying to keep it spontaneous and flowing. The only rule I have is that I can ONLY play my own songs, although you will occasionally recognize an old "sample" that I built around. This is the same song-crafting format as producer’s such as: DJ Shadow, RJD2, Thievery Corporation, Blockhead, and many others. My greatest hope in creating and performing this music is to provoke a positive and creative energy in people, while celebrating our unity and diversity! I hope you enjoy!!!
