   About Fretboard Journal
.. If you're anything like us, you love guitars but never really could get your head around "guitar magazines." Too many ads, too many how-to-shred lessons, too many artists you could care less about....

The Fretboard Journal is a new, quarterly magazine for acoustic and electric instrument obsessives. We are proudly independent, owned and operated by musicians. We focus on quality, in-depth writing and world-class photography with our heroes. Many famous musicians write for us, alongside luthiers and some of the best music journalists in the world. Each issue is a keepsake and something you'll want to show off to music-loving friends. Our early issues sell for serious money on eBay, something we find flattering ... we just set out to make a really nice, informative magazine that is meant to endure.

The magazine is printed on art book quality paper and with an elegant layout. We restrict the number of ads we run in each issue to a small percentage of the overall book. You'll never see stories broken up by ugly ads in this magazine. Think of it as Architectural Digest but for guitar geeks. Or maybe the Surfers Journal/Rodder's Journal for those who own a mandolin... you get the idea. Check it out at www.fretboardjournal.com.

The magazine can be found throughout the US at Barnes & Noble, Borders, Guitar Center, and finer guitar stores and newsstands. We encourage our readers to subscribe: it helps us plan future issues better and it contributes more to our bottom line than newsstand sales. You'll even save a few bucks per issue and precious gas money.

The Fretboard Journal blog over on our real interweb site (www.fretboardjournal.com/blog) is filled with daily tidbits of musical instrument and musician news, great guitar finds and cool links to other news sites. Check it out.

Sweet Hollywaiians

"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)

"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff

I've only held a mandolin in my hands maybe five times in my entire life (and I'm getting old), yet I read every word of every issue of your magazine. This is a testament to the writing of your contributors. Keep up the great work!
