In 2007 fRETfEST staged a search for authentic new emerging artists called "Find Of The Year" at the Qld Performing Arts Centre, and we revealed 40 Finalists across 4 age groups, each with their own unique style and musical flavour.
In 2008 we took the 40 artists to the Woodford Folk Festival where they each performed live and, in 2009, we returned with the best of our best. We performed every day to near capacity crowds and we sold out of our 'Best Of 2008' compilation CD! It's was AMAZING!
Now, here’s the instructions for participating in this year’s 2009 fRETfEST events, as an emerging artist:
This year, fRETfEST is not being run as a "competition" ~
We’re simply on the lookout for South East Qld’s best new singer songwriters and we’re providing meaningful live performance opportunities at local hotels around Brisbane and the surrounding South East Queensland region.
We've organised the gigs in suburban pubs, and we're inviting everyone to come along and check it out, first.
If you like what you see, you can hand over a demo and we’ll have a listen to it and if your demo rocks we’ll get back in touch with you. We'll discuss how to arrange to get up on one of our fRETfEST stages, (if your material is suitable), and if you're accepted you'll get paid to play!

IMPORTANT. Your demo must contain your own original acoustic SOLO songs, just 3 or 4 songs only, and without the aid of any overdubs or backing muso’s or any special effects; and it must be just you, alone, on your acoustic guitar (SOLO) and with guitar and vocal only. No instrumentals please; just you and your ACOUSTIC GUITAR, and all songs must be G-rated and recorded “live”.
If you need any help making demo just speak to the guys at AUDIO ADVANTAGE in Brisbane, or ALCHEMIX, or NASTY STUDIOS.... and tell em we sent you! Otherwise just record it at home coz the quality of the recording is not as important as the quality of your songs.
IMPORTANT. The first step is to come along to one of the gigs and say gidday; an hand over a demo.

You can always come along to any of our gigs, but leave your guitar at home bcoz fRETfEST is not a "jam nite" ~ it's a professional showcase where all of the artists are paid to perform. All the acts are professionally auditioned and booked in advance.
You can also get involved (as a band) with our new showcase events, and all you have to do is SEND US AN EMAIL TO : info@fretfest.com ~ only acoustic/folk/pop/rock/fusion (not heavy). We will email you the application form and details etc.
