Freyburg Hall is a 97 year old dance hall in the rolling hills of South Central Texas between LaGrange, Flatonia and Schulenburg. It's a great barn-style dance hall in the middle of nowhere. Featuring top-notch Americana, country and bluegrass twice a month in the spring and fall, it's a great place to bring the kids, play horseshoes, washers, cards, dominoes, then have a great meal cooked on the big bbq pit, sit in the biergarten and relax with friends, then settle into a great musical performance by the likes of (so far) Fred Eaglesmith, The Austin Lounge Lizards, Slaid Cleaves, Susan Gibson, Paul Geremia, The Ginn Sisters, Abi Tapia, Beth Wood, Suzanna Choffel, The Pettit Brothers, Wild River Band, The Swingfield Playboys, Dear Henry and Bill Passalacqua. The hall seats about 250 comfortably with plenty of room outside. Check out the schedule, be our friend, come out and join us!

The History of Freyburg,TX

"Named by homesick Germans for a town back in the old country, Freyburg was founded in the late 1860s. Most of the town's history revolves around the Methodist church which celebrated its 125th anniversary. Prior to the 1879 construction of the church building, services had been held in private homes and the local school.

The town had the essential store and blacksmith in 1886 and by the end of that decade, the town was granted a post office as well. The population was still only fifty people in the 1890s, but this small group managed to support both a general and grocery store as well as a saloon.

The German benevolent Order of the Sons of Hermann built a dance hall in Freyburg early in the 20th Century. The post office closed its doors in 1907.

By 1940 the town had fewer residents than ever, and the homes of those forty people were scattered across the countryside. In the 1970s Freyburg was still maintaining a store, and had both Lutheran and Methodist churches. In recent years the population has increased back to forty-five. Freyburg is often mistaken for Frelsburg, Texas which is in neighboring Colorado County."

"Freyburg is at the intersection of Farm roads 956 and 2238, twelve miles southwest of La Grange in southwestern Fayette County. It was founded about 1868 by Germansqv and named for a town in Germany. Methodist services were held in local homes, then in a store and a school building. In 1879 the Freyburg Methodist Church, described as "an open plan Gothic Church with a central bell tower," was constructed. By 1886 Freyburg had a blacksmith shop and C. F. Thulemeyer's general store. A post office was opened in 1889, and by 1896 the community had fifty inhabitants, a saloon, a grocery store, and a general store. In the early 1900s the Order of Sons of Hermannqv had a dance hall in the community. The post office closed in 1907, and in 1940 Freyburg had forty inhabitants, one business, and a number of scattered dwellings. In the 1970s it comprised an old store, an old gin, several cemeteries, scattered homes, and Lutheran and Methodist churches. In 2000 Freyburg had a population of forty-five, and a bed and breakfast operated in an old farmhouse there. In 2004 the recently restored Freyburg Methodist Church celebrated its 125th anniversary."
