The Phenomenal Handclap Band "Live at Lime" (9.22.09)
It was a sweaty afternoon during their set at SXSW '09 when Limewire first fell in love with The Phenomenal Handclap Band. This live EP is a must have for any PHB fan, with a fresh take on 5 classic songs from their critically-acclaimed full length record. Available exclusively at LimeWire Store!
Windmill "Epcot Starfields" (09.15.09)
A childhood trip to Florida's EPCOT Center provided the inspiration for Windmill's entire second album and it features sweeping strings, cascading pianos, lush production, and Matthew Dillon's unmistakably unique vocal warble.
The Phenomenal Handclap Band "S/T" (06.23.09)
The Phenomenal Handclap Band is a tight-knit aggregation of musicians and artists from Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn. We are proud to be releasing their debut album this summer which is the perfect blend of psychedelic space disco & smooth 60s-style soul perfectly with early hip hop, and moody, synth-soaked hooks.
Faunts "Feel.Love.Thinking.Of." remixes (03.10.09)
An iTunes exclusive (!), this is a digital single for the title track from Faunts "Feel.Love.Thinking.Of." Remixes come courtesy of up and comers Mexicans with Guns, Leaf & Giraffe and Faunts themselves doing a little re-working.
Faunts "Feel.Love.Thinking.Of." (02.17.09)
With its effervescent guitars, mathematic loops and synthesizers, surging drums, and seemingly nomadic bass lines, "Feel.Love.Thinking.Of.", Faunts' masterful second album, is both more ambitious in its conception and more focused in its execution than anything the band has done before. Faunts are a band of perfectionists - every movement agonized over, every melody deconstructed and explored - whose labors have resulted in an expansive, layered, textured, and sublime collaboration. "Feel.Love.Thinking.Of." is a huge step forward for the band and a true supernova of an album.
Faunts "Remixed" (11.18.08)
A 14-track, 80+ minute long digital-only assembly of reworked songs from Faunts' first two records, spanning the gamut from four-on-the-floor dancefloor bangers to absract electro-acoustic soundscapes, courtesy of folks like Cadence Weapon, Mark Templeton, Brightest Feathers (aka Saxon Shore), Paronomasiac (aka Nik from Shout Out Out Out Out) and many more. Oh, and did we mention it's only $5.99!
Asobi Seksu "Citrus" 2xLP (11.25.08)
Asobi Seksu "Citrus" CD (05.30.06)
This is our first vinyl release and we couldn't be happier with how it's turned out! Asobi Seksu's already-classic sophomore album is now available on 180-gram vinyl with a stunningly beautiful gatefold sleeve. It Includes a download card for the entire album PLUS bonus remixes from CSS and Ulrich Schnauss. "Citrus" contains eleven slices of guitar-swirling, sweet-and-sour, bilingual dream pop. Frontwoman Yuki's voice is more assured than ever, swinging from a girlish falsetto to plaintive laments and switching effortlessly between Japanese and English lyrics, all the while anchored by the lush, turbulent guitar of James Hanna. This is the sound of a band coming into its own, and having fun doing it.
Windmill "Puddle City Racing Light" (07.22.08)
A heady distillation of US indie (think Built To Spill, Guided By Voices, Mercury Rev and Flaming Lips), early ‘70s melancholia and twisted folk-pop, Windmill's " Puddle City Racing Lights" is an accomplished debut album and completely the vision of one man. Born and raised in a small town in Southern England and now residing in London, Matthew Thomas Dillon possess a distinctive voice that sounds like Neil Young on a helium comedown and his lyrics speak to the detritus of modern life – airport lounges, plastic chairs, flourescent lights. Dillon produces songs that swell with bruised emotions, fragile melodies and bombastic orchestration.
Camphor "Drawn to Dust" (04.01.08)
Camphor's Drawn to Dust offers up a dark but catchy listening experience reminiscent in flashes of artists like Beck, Nick Cave, Sufjan Stevens, Sparklehorse, Brian Wilson, Calexico, Wilco and late-era Talk Talk. Features contributions from members of Beirut and Mercury Rev - this is absolutely lovely, stunning stuff.
The Whitsundays "S/T" (01.22.08)
It could just as easily be 1967. But no matter the year, Edmonton, Alberta's the Whitsundays certainly have a knack for writing yellowed, reverb-wrapped pop music, borrowing from the grand tradition of English psychedelia, garage, and vintage organ rock. With reverent nods to the flower-picking whimsy of the Zombies, the red-faced bluster of the Animals, and the delightful inanity of Syd Barrett, the Whitsundays' self-titled debut is a vintage gem, and a charming hodgepodge of '60s musical ephemera. Featuring members of Faunts and Shout Out Out Out Out.
Faunts "M4" (01.07.08)
Originally written for a live performance hosted by the Film And Video Arts Society, M4 (which includes the song "M4 Part II," as featured in the video game "Mass Effect") is composed of scores originally created to accompany three independent short films. Harnessing the use of electronics and synthesizers, Faunts have gathered material that is more ambient and atmospheric than their previous work, but still demonstrates their love for layered melodies and sparkling electronics. This is a nearly album-length digital EP - we have a VERY LIMITED quantity of physical copies and will not be repressing them, so if you want a CD copy, order now!
The Old Soul "S/T" (04.17.08)
Deep-fried Grandaddy rock, horn-led Elephant 6 pop and zydeco stomps all find a home in the warmth of the Old Soul's three-minute ditties - the Canadian band's self-titled debut album is a vast collection of pop, calypso, folk, rock, country & western and gypsy exotica, like some sort of genre-ignoring modern Frankenstein.
Elk City "New Believers" (04.17.08)
On their third and best album, Elk City (which features guitarist Sean Eden from dream-pop pioneers Luna) calls upon a wide palette of influences: 1960's psychedelic bands such as Love, the girl group sounds of classic Motown, 1970's proto-punk heroes John Cale and Television, and 1980's alternative rock such as The Smiths and The Pixies.
David & The Citizens "Until the Sadness is Gone" (10.31.07)
A truly remarkable album: jubilant, melodic, and intelligent. Lovingly arranged, lyrically moving, and distinctively Scandinavian. Heartstring-tugging, but still a hell of a lot of fun. From the whooping klezmer clarinet on opening track “The End” (which works surprisingly well in the context of an indie pop song) to the bouncy harmonies of “New Direction,” “Until the Sadness is Gone” is a confident and catchy release from one of Sweden’s greatest exports since Ikea.
David & The Citizens "S/T" (03.07.06)
Six-song EP featuring some of the best songs from the band's history, including several that are difficult to find even in their home country of Sweden. Catchy, propulsive indie-pop, recommended for fans of Neutral Milk Hotel.
Faunts "High Expectations/Low Results" (10.18.05)
Debut release from Canada's Faunts. Shimmering walls of pink noise with dreamy, languorous guitar, gently-treated vocals, and swimmingly beautiful melodies. Recommended for fans of Mogwai, Sigur Rós, and Slowdive.
Asobi Seksu"S/T" (05.18.04)
Self-titled debut release from one of NYC's most talked-about indie bands. Asobi Seksu melds a pop sensibility with the mighty guitar squalls of James Hanna and Yuki Chikudate's gorgeous, English/Japanese vocals. The result is a truly awesome album.
Excellent label you've got going on, especially Asobi Seksu is a big love of ours. Heard you might have someone present at by:larm, it would be on honour to have them attend one of our shows!
