His follow-up was the film DIRTY LAUNDRY, which quickly became a media sensation. With a family story rooted in both comedy and drama, DIRTY LAUNDRY told a story we have never seenm before: a Black gay man coming home to the deep south and finding that both he and his famliy must come to terms with his lifestyle. The film won numerous festival awards as did director/actor Jamal and the film's lead Loretta Devine. Rounding out the film's leading roles were Rockmond Dunbar, Jenifer Lewis, Terri J. Vaughn, Sommore and Jamal himself. The film had a national theatrical release with FOX/Codeblack, making hostory again as the first Black gay themed film to do so. The film garnered huge media attention, with both the film and Mr. Jamal being covered EBONY, JET, BET, New York Times, CNN, TV ONE, OUT, The ADVOCATE just to name a few. It is smashing records on DVD and can currently be seen on TV ONE.

Next up is his film adaptation of B-BOY BLUES, the classic novel by James Earl Hardy which tells the story of unrequited love in the hip-hop world. Also on the roster are a Motown-era musical and a drama about death and dying.

This fall will see the debut of his new TV series FRIENDS AND LOVERS, a highly anticaped comedic drama about several diverse couples living large and loving hard in LA. The series is a spin off of his film THE SKI TRIP and marks the first such series to feature a diverse cast both racially and in regards to sexual orientation. There is tremendous buzz about the series and like the previous projects is certain to change the face of film and TV.

Later this year, will see the debut of his new production company SHADE, a division of MoJAM.
