The Friends of Lester formed in Belmont in 1989, with it's original members, Matt Bowhall on Lead Guitar, Nick Pack - Drums, Jay Denton on Bass and Phil Crader on guitar, squeezing in to a stuffy Garage most weekends. As bands like Nirvana, STP and Pear Jam we're changing the face of popular music, they learned Led Zepplin Covers, listened to Local bands like Primus, and went to the Berkely Square to watch the charlie Humnter trio and wrote original insturmental tunes bassed on a range of subjects from diff. types of Fruit to Horror movies, and the music of forgien contries. by 1994 the band was playing 2 hour sets at the City college of san mateo as well as the club cocodrie and other clubs that have since changed their names or no longer exist. Over the years members have come and gone, performing all over the world in more forms than could be described here. The core three members, Jay Denton, Matt Bowhall and Nick Pack, still get togeather to play their own form of over the top progressive rock, making brief apperances over the years in random San Francisco clubs crossing over it's live rock clubs as well as it's experimental music scene.
