Be active in your community! Clip Film Outreach is proud to be associated with filmmakers Vicki Nantz and Mary Meeks and "Accessory to Murder: Our Culture's Complicity in the Death of Ryan Skipper." We encourage you to see this film about a young man brutally murdered in Polk County, Florida and the role we all play in allowing this type of hate to continue to be spread in our community.
"Accessory to Murder: Our Culture’s Complicity in the Death of Ryan Skipper"
On March 14, 2007, twenty-five year old Ryan Skipper was brutally murdered in Polk County, Florida because of who he was. Harassed and threatened throughout his young life for being gay in a rural community, Ryan was ultimately targeted as a “faggot” by men who robbed him, stabbed him, slit his throat and dumped his body on a dirt road.
Ryan Skipper, a victim of heinous anti-gay violence, was yet again victimized in death by a county sheriff who made homophobic and irresponsible statements to the media, and then by a compliant media that blindly accepted and perpetuated those statements as fact. Ryan Skipper was murdered, maligned and ignored, all because he was gay.
Where does such hate originate, and who’s to blame for a society that demeans and diminishes its lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered citizens? All of us must ask what would motivate men to savagely murder someone only because he is gay.
The documentary, “Accessory to Murder: Our Culture’s Complicity in the Death of Ryan Skipper” explores the rampant homophobia which exists throughout our culture and its institutions. From the mouths of presidents and celebrated personalities to the pulpit and Public Square, America marginalizes, vilifies and demonizes its gay community.
In the words of the film’s Director, “In October of 1998, Matthew Shepard was brutally murdered because he was gay. All eyes turned to Laramie, Wyoming. In March of 2007, Ryan Skipper was brutally murdered in Central Florida because he was gay. All eyes turned away.”
ACCESSORY TO MURDER: OUR CULTURE’S COMPLICITY IN THE DEATH OF RYAN SKIPPER is available for purchase. Money from the sale of DVDs benefits the Ryan Keith Skipper Fund. Contact Friends of the Festival at info@cliptampabay.com of visit www.ryanskipperdocumentary.com for additional information.

Thank you for the friendship and for your support in helping increase the effort to EDUCATE our youth of the dangers of drugs and violence. Our future generation depends on the youth of today. Alcohol and Drugs are plaguing our society and we need to attack it head on where it is digging its roots; with our youth in our schools. Knowledge and Truth are the key to help them stay clean. They deserve the TRUTH about all of the drugs they will incounter. They are simply too smart to accept the old 'Just Say NO' adage. Todays teens want to KNOW for themselves, and a rebellious society we have created. They will seek the truth themselves and we must educate them with it. That's what they respect; That's what they deserve! A NEW D.A.R.E. REQUIRES A NEW APPROACH! Please help spread the word and tell your friends about D.A.R.E. Feel free to visit D.A.R.E. online at www.dare.com for more info on starting a D.A.R.E. program in your area and/or to show your support. Peace :-)
