My apologies to ALL the nOg regulars! I know i was just a BEEP on the nOg-DAR! My 15 months there, meant more to me than a lifetime of stickin' around sports bars, To those that have stuck it out, good for you! For those , like me, that have been waiting for the second coming of the "nOg". Keep dreaming, a bar like that comes once in a lifetime.

You can expand the space for the cllientel But as big and bad as it becomes, it will never hold a candle to the original!

Open house at former nOg site

nog-site.jpeg

The real estate agency handling the sale of the former Tir na nOg will be holding an open house sometime tomorrow. The asking price for the 1,000-square-foot Somerville Avenue property is $195,000. That includes, I believe, both a food and liquor license. According to the listing, the pub has a capacity of 60 seats and historically brought in $9,000 worth of sales a week. Sixty seats? My goodness, there were some nights where it felt like there were 150 people in there.

An interesting side note: the Atlantic Restaurant Group’s online headline refers to the property as “Somerville Pub-former Tir na nOg,” and not the most recent bar name: “Union Square Pub.” Kind of revealing, isn’t it?

Much to the chagrin of former nOg regulars, the Union Square Pub has been closed for months. Many of us consider it a tremendous waste considering the owners could have allowed the nOg to remain open throughout the year as it waited for the right time to sell the revered space.

Well, if former nOg owner Robert Elliot is interested in re-opening the nOg, this appears to be a decent opportunity. It won’t be in the place across the street (321-325 Somerville Ave.)dogma2.jpg where he and others placed many bar-related items after the nOg closed back in March. That Somerville Avenue place is going to be home to the pet grooming business “Dogma” starting next month.
