Known for their contagious energy and electrifying sound, this band has been recognized by their sound and performance. Band members JJ Brown (guitar and lead vocals), Andy Vonstauffenberg better known as “Von” (lead guitar), Jeff Garzotto (bass), and John Nino (drummer), met in Hanford, California and joined together in early 2004. JJ, Von and Garzotto were all stationed at the Lemoore N.A.S. when they met Hanford native Nino. Soon after a few practices they graduated from being a garage band to performing week after week throughout Handford. Sequoia Club quickly becoming popular in the area with a dedicated fan base that wouldn’t miss a single gig in town.
The unique background behind each of the band members gives the group an electric flavor to which anyone can relate. JJ Brown is from Chattanooga, Tennessee right near one of the nation’s music capitals, bringing to the group a melodic voice with fierce depth and a gift for writing catchy lyrics. Originally from Austria, Von brings to the band an intense love for rock-n-roll with amazing energy and a desire to put on a memorable show. A native of Chicago, Illinois, Garzotto brings the deep bass from the home of jazz and blues taking the band to deeper levels. Nino is a Hanford local giving the band a taste of rockabilly flavor and passionate background vocals.
As a band, they played show after show, week after week and only played outside of Hanford once for the Battle of the Bands in Kingsburg. They played their last show in Hanford in December of 2004 before they packed their bags and headed to Nashville in pursuit of recording their first album. While in Nashville, they played a total of six shows and not before long, the band was overwhelmed by the stress and hardships and quickly became sick of being poor musicians. They fell apart and never completed the mission they had set out for. Strangely enough through time each member ended back in the valley regardless of their origins.
“We are starting to flood the streets with our sound again and people are starting to talk about the crazy Austrian on guitar and the battle of guitars that once went on and on,” said Brown. “The point is that we believe in the music we write and we are selling our hearts to the audience. Our shows rock because everyone has a little rock star in them trying to come out and we bring it out of people."
