Spawned from the hard core foundations of the music scene in Spokane, WA, FROM SWORD TO SUNRISE or "FSTS" was formed in late 2007 by Eric Varnell, Seth Wolther and Matt Rudd. After a number of bass players had come and gone, Nate Leonardi joined the group and the band was complete.
In 2008 the band had been playing local shows where they were seen by manager Kevin Lee. Kevin is a partner at Union Entertainment Group who manages such artists as Nickelback, Hinder, Steven Tyler, RED, Candlebox and more. Lee liked what he saw and heard and began to help the band out with some initial touring opportunities. In 2008 the band had a regional tour with Five Finger Death Punch followed by more extensive tours with Trivium and All That Remains. After the band had some real road work under their belts it was time to get into the studio where Lee produced the bands debut full length CD, simply titled "FSTS."
"I wanted to spend time with the band before I would consider becoming their manager. They are a very talented, but young act. There is no better way to see what kind of people and talent you are dealing with than going through the process of writing and recording a record. I pushed them and they responded beautifully. They were a pleasure to work with and I really felt that we were just scratching the surface of what this band could become. At that point it was a no brainer for me to sign them."
When asked how he would describe the bands sound guitarist Eric Varnell said this: "For me, it's simply pure energy and emotion. We love blending heavy yet melodic passages together."
One local writer describes the bands' sound as "Hard hitting and explosive, combined with influences of mayhem and destruction. From Sword To Sunrise's energetic aggression shines through via high-caliber songwriting, and crushing ensemble execution!"
It soon became obvious that others agreed. The local active rock station KHTQ added the bands first single "One" and other markets followed with test spins which received an overwhelmingly positive response.
The spins at radio soon got the attention of the team behind the inaugural HardDrive Tour. With 125 radio stations broadcasting the show, HardDrive is America's longest running new rock show supporting and launching the careers of hundreds of groups from Korn to Five Finger Death Punch, as well as the multi-platinum Slipknot. HD is one of the most successful syndicated radio shows in the country and they thought FSTS was a perfect fit.
The 2009 HD tour features All That Remains, Lacuna Coil, Mayleene and the Sons of Disaster and From Sword To Sunrise.
Vocalist Seth Wolther is more than excited about the upcoming HD tour. "We are so fortunate to have this opportunity. There really is not a better way for us to reach our audience then to tour with bands like this and to have the support of HardDrive. They are amazing people and have given us a real shot here."
Drummer Matt Rudd is also looking forward to the tour. "I am so excited about this run. I get to watch these amazing musicians rip it up every night!"
The band was recently tapped to open KHTQ's summer radio fest in the Spokane Arena were they supported Mudvayne, Black Label Society and Static X.
Bassist Nate Leonardi was particularly excited to get on this bill. As Nate explains, "It is a pleasure just to be in the same room with guitarist Zach Wylde. He is such a major influence and a living legend. It is an honor to share the stage with BLS."
Currently, the group's management is in conversations and with companies in efforts to find the right label for the bands' career. In a time of darkness in the recording industry, FSTS is a band that has a bright future ahead of them.
