We are a sextet (heehee, Oh, BTW i warn you if you see us live be prepared to lose 5 years off your mental age...) of which we have :
Ben "Bad Bone" Frost - On the comical instrument that is the trombone.
Edd "Red in the Face - bully me please" Haine - on the sensuously sexy alto saxophone and NOT the drums.
Peter "Insert Nickname Here" Knight- as the new face of the band. Oh yeah he also has a car; and money. I think he also might play tenor somewhere but I'm sceptical...
James "Ice-T Fly Doggy Dog MC Chillin' Notorious Killa" Beckwith - fingering it up on the ol' joanna .
Leo "Smoked Ginger, just the way i like it" Cunningham Baily - slappin the bass around like a no good woman. (its a joke feminists...)
and finally Harry "One of my 2700 commitments; cos i have ODC*" Wrigley - driving the band with a funky rhythm on the road to nowhere...
BIO
Ben (Frosty) started the band in early 2004. He is known for the amount of trombones he's gone through - he's now on his 4th! Ben now says that his C.G. Conn 88HT is a keeper! Ben has been influenced by many people but none more than Kai Winding and J.J. Johnson. He also plays the Euphonium and Bass bone which he loves playing. Ben plays in a wide variety of bands and is looking forward to a career in Army music.
Edd has been playing with his horn for around eight years. He goes to the Royal Academy of Music every Saturday. He is also an enthusiastic guitar player and a sleazt drummer. He has had many influences on the sax but he says Wayne Shorter has to be he is Jazz hero. He was one of the first members of the band along with Ben, Rob and James. Edd has also been tought by some of the most influencial jazz musicians on the current British jazz scene such as Nick Smart and Phill Robson. Ed now goes to long road and resides in a nearby ditch...
Peter is new to the band., so WATCH THIS SPACE for his bio!
James has been playing his instrument 9 years. He started out playing classical music and got to grade 4. He simply 'got bored' of this genre of music and was looking for another place to express himself in. His friend Edward John Haine had been playing Jazz for a few years and James thought it sounded good and wanted in. James was invited to join Frosty and the Snowmen when it was first created. He has improved dramatically since he first got into jazz and as such plays at the RAM (Royal Academy of Music) Jazz course every Saturday Morning. James has been taught by some of the hottest cats on the scene including: Nick Smart, Mark Lockheart and Phil Robson. His main musical tastes are Jazz, Funk, Latin & Blues; and is influenced by Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson but most of all: Herbie Hancock. He now goes to SWCHS so contact him if you want a jam!
Leo joined the band about 4 months after it was started by Frosty. He plays a Cruiser made by Craft which is a fender jazz bass copy. He enjoys long walks in the country and star light nights. Leo mostly plays walking bass in the band but also does a bit of slap on the side. He has been playing for 2 1/2 years and almost knows all the notes on his bass. He still goes to friends school ladies!
Harry has been playing drums and percussion for three years, starting in the move to secondary school. His playing has been influenced by many drumming icons such as the great Buddy Rich, the innovative Jimmy Chamberlin and the inspirational Don Famulero. He also is involved in a varied array of musical styles ranging from jazz to rock. He has resently taken in interest in the world of sound engineering and is planning to create a home studio in the near future.
Ben has been playing guitar for 6, nearly 7 years something like that. He is also a trumpet player, singer, songwriter and escaped Lunatic. Originally he always wanted to be the next Angus Young, constantly listening to AC/DC (he has all 16, similar sounding albums) and was going in the write direction when he realized that there was more to music than Wearing a school uniform, playing an SG and throwing yourself about on stage playing power chords. (Although Ben still does it, loving every minute). In the past two years he discovered the world of jazz and it sent him in a completely new direction, into a world of sex, drugs, gambling… Just kidding, He’s a good boy really. As if jazz musicians have sex and do drugs! Ben now adores his fusion and funk and the quest for a truly original sound that doesn’t encourage slavery or destruction of the rainforest. His inspirations are so vast that it would be silly to list them, to give you an idea the spectrum goes from cranberry juice to watching a worm slide through the due soaked grass on a Sunday morning. Ben was asked to Join Frosty and the Snowmen after the O.A.P party at the Saffron Walden County High where they played a rather sumptuous ‘Watermelon Man’. Yet it wasn’t quite the average O.A.P’s cup of tea; it was certainly the best ‘Watermelon Man’ he had ever played. Ben was very pleased to be a member of such a jazzoidic experience and thrilled that he has a place to get FuNkY!
