Originally intended only to garner record label interest, it spurned a regional cult following, as fans travelled throughout Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Missouri to see the band play in the local venues.
The band had several opportunities to get to the "next level" in its growth, even starting work on its second and full-length release, tentatively titled, "Barbeque, Beer and Guns". Unfortunately, the lineup changed due to several factors, and the musical chemistry was never really all there, after that. After another two years of trying to make things work out, the group disbanded in 1993.
Bassist Marshall Watkins and Lead Guitarist Arick Reeder went on to play in several other local bands, and continue to play out, even in 2007. Lead Vocalist Mike Hancock moved to St. Louis, Chicago and finally, New York City, where he is currently researching recording and touring acts in need of a singer/songwriter.
Original drummer Dave Van Hoy ceased music altogether after unfortunate health issues plagued him, and the drummer most known for the live stage percussion, Brad Dutton, resides in Cave-in-Rock, Illinois with his family.
Other musicians who played in Frozen Rose at times included, Randy Cox, Dane Dennis, Terry Kayamori, Jonathan Fitzgerald, Dave Mitchell, Jon Ellis, and several others who made their way through what was considered almost a "Spinal-Tap"-like assembly line of musicians.
Frozen Rose vocalist Mike Hancock, who owns the copyrights to this album and the band name, has decided to make this recording available for whomever wants to hear it, and maybe someday, the old band will decide to get together and jam out a few tunes in some dusty bar, somewhere between Oregon and Maine.....
I was the singer/songwriter for this band, back in the early '90's, and we had made this EP as a tester, to see if there was any interest in the music we created. We actually did get a few bites from a couple labels... we came close to having a touring deal, and even had a few radio stations playing our music in far away places like Nova Scotia, Maryland and of course, throughout the Midwest....... but as the old story goes, you can't put four creative egos the size of Texas into a band the size of Rhode Island......well, okay---maybe that's NOT an old saying like that, but it still fits....or maybe it doesn't...whatever.... LMAO!!!
Anyway, these were recorded at Rare Earth Studios in Harrisburg, Illinois, engineered by Richard Banks.
There are still a few copies of the original pressing of 3000 CD's and Cassettes out there, and anyone interested in learning more about the band, its members or future/current projects can contact me, and I'll be happy to provide whatever info I can.

I had hair back then! This is Marshall. This brings back memories. I hadn't been playing that long when we did this. We've all grown musically and skill wise, imagine what it would be if we recorded now!

Hey Brad here. Frozen Rose was one of the best times of my life. The guys were like brothers to me. Lots of talent there but at the time I was too young to realize it. It's cool to know that none of us ever really stopped playing in the years since Frozen Rose. I've spent the last several years playing in diffrent bands including Drivin' Rain and Junkvine. I currently play for TEN STORY. If you'd like any more info on that go to: http://www.myspace.com/tenstory or http://www.myspace.com/braddutton Long live Frozen Rose. Who's up for a reunion show?
