Frances R. Willis SPCA's Blurbs |
About me:
The Frances R. Willis shelter was established over 25 years ago to provide a safe haven for stray, abandoned, abused or lost pets. It's named for Frances Willis, who brought the SPCA to Dorchester County and founded the shelter.
Over the years we have expanded our facility, but we continue to reach our capacity because our community is growing and because the pet overpopulation crisis is not abating. In 2002 the shelter served nearly 5,000 homeless or unwanted animals.
But there is good news. We are very proud to have an adoption rate which exceeds the ASPCA national average. And we're working hard to spread the news about pet adoption, spaying and neutering, and responsible pet ownership.
With a young, dynamic staff and a corps of dedicated volunteers, the shelter is poised to make significant improvements for animal welfare in the county.
We are located in Summerville, SC
at 136 Four Paws Lane
off of Highway 78.
Our hours of operation are as follows:
Friday thru Sunday: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Monday thru Thursday: 12 p.m. - 5 p.m.
Intake Department is closed on Wednesdays
Owner Surrender from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Looking for that special pet?
We have so many animals looking for a forever home. Please consider visiting us today and bringing a shelter pet in to your life. Our "Available For Adoption" pages are updated regularly on our website:

Who I'd like to meet:
The Frances R. Willis SPCA is a non-profit charitable organization. To continue to help the animals in our area, we rely heavily on the support of animal lovers like yourself. Please consider one of the following options for getting involved:
VOLUNTEER:
The Shelter is always glad to have volunteers come and socialize the animals. Playing with cats and kittens, and walking dogs and puppies is a simple and fun way that anyone can get involved with their animal shelter and help their community in a fun way! Volunteers are welcome during any hours of operation.
Volunteers who are under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian accompany them during the time that they volunteer at the shelter. Volunteers ages 18 and over are required to sign a volunteer contract, and a log to show their community service time.
DONATIONS:
Financial donations are always welcomed and may be deductible on your taxes (consult your accountant for full details). Donations can be mailed to us at P.O. Box 1116, Summerville, SC 29483. We also accept online payments to help care for the homeless animals (see our website for more details)!
MEMORIALS:
Memorials or Honorariums are accepted at the SPCA to remember or honor a companion animal or a human friend. If you would like to make a donation in memory of a lost pet or to honor a friend, please make sure to include the name and address of the person you would like the acknowledgement sent to and include your name and address!
To make a donation to the Frances R. Willis Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals by credit card, please call (843) 871 3820 or mail to the address above. If using PayPal, please enter the information for the memorial in the notes section.
to remember a loved one.
BECOME A MEMBER OF THE SPCA:
Basic membership is $25 a year and includes a copy of our quarterly newsletter, "The Paw and Claw", and invitations to special events such as the annual Oyster Roast!
WISH LIST:
On our website, www.SummervilleSPCA.com, click "Wish List" to see a list of the items we desperately need. Items can be dropped of at our facility during business hours. Collecting items from the list is a great project for schools, troops, and other organizations looking for a simple way to get involved.
GUARDIAN ANGELS:
Help a shelter animal without taking one home! Does the thought of homeless animals living in cages tug at your heart-but yet you're not ready or able to take one home? There is still a way you can help. The Frances R. Willis SPCA is offering Low Country animal lovers the opportunity to help numerous homeless pets without actually adding any to the household. The Guardian Angel program allows individuals or businesses to sponsor a dog kennel or cat cage at the shelter for six months, a year, or a lifetime.
Becoming a Frances R. Willis SPCA Guardian Angel costs:
$75 for six (6) months
$150 for one (1) year
$3,500 for twenty-five (25) years
If you are interested in becoming a Guardian Angel - please, don't put it off! There is a quick, easy form on our site for becoming a Guardian Angel. Please fill it out and send it in with your check.
In appreciation for any of these donations, the inscription of your choice will appear on a plate affixed to the cage, run or playpen, and will also be advertised on the shelter web site and the newsletter, The Paw & Claw. As a Guardian Angel, you are encouraged to drop in and visit your cage throughout the year to see which animals you are helping.
Donations are tax-deductible. Send your check and the printed form to Guardian Angels, Frances R. Willis SPCA, P.O. Box 1116, Summerville, SC 29484. For more information, call the shelter at 871-3820.
