About me: The Fort Smith Police Department's Cyber Investigations Unit was established in early 2004 to give our department the ability to combat computer crimes and child exploitation. The Unit consists of four investigators. Sergeant Adam Holland established the unit and works as an examiner and supervisor for the cases investigated by this group. Detective Joe Barnes is the first full time Investigator and Examiner to join the unit. He handles exams and cases involving computer crime such as harassment, threats and online exploitation. Alvey Matlock, the Department's I.T. Manager has also joined the unit on a part time basis to bring his networking and security knowledge aboard as another skill set. Officer James Brewer has now also joined the fight as he works with assisting the Department's I.T.unit. The Cyber Investigations Unit is part of the P.S.C. Project Safe Childhood program put into place by the United States Attorney General's Office. We have also joined the I.C.A.C. Internet Crimes Against Children task force headed by the Arkansas State Police. The unit operates under the slogan "Today's Law Enforcement Protecting Tomorrow's Promise." This represents the children who we work to protect so that they can be safe from the predators who seek to steal their innocence. Our job is to help find the clues to aid in proving both innocence and guilt. The unit works very hard to make this resource we possess available to other agencies in our area. We are available to present child and internet safety programs to churches, schools and other civic groups in our area. We can be reached by sending an e-mail to cybercops@fortsmithpd.org. Together we can make a difference. Together we can find ways to protect our children.
