I ALSO REALLY WISH THESE IGNORANT ASSHOLES WOULD LEAVE AND STOP COMING TO ATLANTA.I LIVED IN ST.LOUIS FOR 8 YEARS ALSO,AND IT"S SEEN BETTER DAYS.

Detroit was great when i was a junkie and a crackhead.

This post makes me so sad because its so true. I feel like if everyone just did something to help the city out it would be a different place but we all know the people that live downtown and that is not going to happen. My Grandma tells the most amazing stories about downtown and how it was "the place to be" and so safe even late at night back in the day. Try as I might its extremely difficult to imagine downtown being safe. I want to turn my back on the city but my entire family both maternal and paternal AND my both sides of my fiances family live in/around Detroit. I just wish there was something we could do but with unemployment on the rise and the auto industry being shut down its like trying to convince the wind not to blow. Detroit just blows and you cant convince it not to not unless the lazy assholes who live in the city decide to fucking do somethin about it and stop believin theyre entitled to this that and the other cause theyre black.

Crying about what used to be is a waste of time. It's a misnomer to say Detroit is dying. It died a long time ago with only sparatic nerve endings still twitching here and there. It's these twitches though that provoke so many to say positive things about Detroit. As a city, as a place to live and flourish is an excercise in futility but one can not deny the tremendous amount of talent in music and art that still manages to ooze from it's corpse. Even this isn't what it once was but so fucking what?! I agree with you 100% on all that you say about Detroit in the same way I agree with a friend of mine who still cries about the good job he use to have and the happy marriage that's now a thing of the past. I nod in agreement while I'm yawning my ass off inside and can't wait to get the hell away from him and go do something constructive with my time. Like right now because I'm tired of even thinking about this boring debate on whether or not Detroit is fucked up. It is...end of conversation. I think I'll get my fishing gear ready for this year before I head to the dead city again this weekend because where I live out here in "utopia", music and art haven't even been born yet.
Now something to cry about!

but that's why detroit is so wonderful -- it's this mad max wasteland of pure death and nazi law enforcement terror, insanity, economic hell and grimness. but i'll never fucking live there again. travel america, and the terrifying thing is that there is no equivalent anywhere in the united states which remotely equals the theatre bizarre, the city club, the salmagundi, the holy shit festival, the ultra-illegal rave underground, etc. the grass is greener everywhere else, but for the sake that the grass is brown -- if you know who to deal with and where to go -- this really is one of the best cities on earth... still, hail the northwest!!! -dr.

sadly i will be going back to this place soon, but not for a long. it's "city" that i love so much but it's so bad at the same time. it's mainly the people that make it miserable. and the laziness is through the roof there; it sickens me. detroit, will hopefully rise again. but only time will tell.

Wow! This is one of the best blogs i've read in awhile. It's sad but true. Detroit was once a beautiful city and it's sad what it has become.

Wow, Detroit . . . Such anger . . . I lived in Detroit and supported plugged and said all-around nice things about it for 10 years. I finally had enough after my car got stolen from in front of the Wayne Co. Courthouse and a cop driving by told me to dial an 800 number to report it. Not to mention the astronomical insurance rates and city taxes (for what?) I gave up on Detroit and moved to the 'burbs where I have more money in my pocket and the police patrol my streets.
Without a decent school system who would want to live there unless they send their kids to private school and live in a concrete fenced compound?

unfortunately...you are right. detroit is dying a slow, painful death from neglect and stupidity. hopefully the city motto is right...it will rise from the ashes...
