Fugato arrived on the charlottetown music scene in the spring of 2005 when bassist, Pete MacDonald and drummer, Jon Holmes started jamming with guitar player and singer, Mark Steele. The trio were later joined by guitarist, Devin Stevenson and percussionist, Mike MacDougal.
The members of Fugato have varied musical pasts. Pete and Jon have played together for the past 13 years in a variety of bands such as: supercar, port citizen and with ECMA winner, Scott Parsons. Mike MacDougall is probably best known for his work with Eyes for Telescopes. Mark and Devin played in the band tumbleweed.
Their sound is a blend of reggae, funk, rock, with a hint of bluegrass. It seems like a strange mix, but due to the members' variation in taste and style, it is difficult to fit Fugato into a specific category. What you are left with is a blend of sounds that fits into a nice, undefinable, and original package.
Fugato's debut recording, Grass Radio won them a 2006 PEI Music Award and work has recently begun on a followup album. The new album, currently untitled, is due for release late this year.
Hey boys, Thanks for finding my music & me. I'll try to make it out on Saturday-- no promises, though. I've got a huge essay due on the following Monday so I might be buried under books & books. I hope you enjoyed what you heard on my end. xxo, Dana Carly
Thanks for being a new friend. You're music feels like contentment and happiness among friends, thanks for creating that space. This is what communion sounds like.
Sounds like wind blowing in a wheatfield, train rolling down the line, rain coming down on a old tin shed, steel, wire and a rusty heart. Boots of leather and dust and ash. Mollasess and coal and stone. Wedding rings and buried bones of love broken and burnt. Tales and the footprints, ravenswings and souls are earnt."
Yo Whats up Fugato! I hope you guys had fun at the ECMA's if you made it. My band Madame Brown from Cape Breton Island will be playing Hunters Ale House on March 28th. I see you dudes will be rocking Summerside that night but if you know anyone in Charlottetown looking for a good night out with some CB dance music tell them to check it out!
Hey Folks! It was so good to see you guys over the holidays, I had a great christmas break! Stopped by the site here to show off your tunes to some calgary folks, keep it up. Later. (I know, that doesn't quite beat the comment that girl left before me, but hey... )
So creative, so original. I love, absolutely LOVE your music. Very very proud that you're from my hometown! Definitely going to check you out live sometime soon! <3
Hi there Fugato first of all we'd like to say thanks for being our myspace pal. We wanted to make sure you knew the reason incase we suddenly vanish off of your friends list. The movement we've started for indie artists has grown significantly and consumes all of our time these days. We seldom sign into our myspace account and this is making several people believe that we are ignoring them. We are not ignoring anyone, we wanted everyone to know that. What we're doing has become so busy we just don't have the time for myspace any longer, so in all honesty we are probably going to just close our myspace account.
Many people wanted to use us in the future so if you were one of those people make sure you bookmark the link below so that in the event that we do close our myspace account you won't loose contact with us. I wish you the best of luck in your music career. Thanks again for being our myspace pal.
