Fulano has been considered the top Chilean jazz rock band and an important pillar in modern experimental music of Latin American.
Fulano ¨The Band¨, was created on 1984 in Santiago, Chile by a group of friends and musicians with an uncontrollable wish to create , compose, study, experiment and improvise.Very soon they came up with the ¨Fulano Sound¨, with a very simple aesthetic premise, which was the game, and the conjugation of the verb surprise, I surprise you, you surprise me, we surprise each other.
Then with an unusual dedication, this abstraction of the beggining was transformed into music that defines their perception of anger and pain, of irreverence and irony, of rebellion against the system and all forms of power, finally the exquisite taste of the counterculture in the midst of the horrors of the dictatorship in Chile.

Fulano, their debut album was released on 1987, as soon as it came out the band ended the frame of being an elite group and was projected to a more heterogeneous audience without age limits.
On 1989 the band comes out with a second recording ¨En el Bunker¨, a double album with more than 100 minutes of an incredible display of musical virtuosism and quality, together with their satirical lyrics, established the band as one of the best jazz-fusion of South America. With this work the band won the Apes (Entertainment Journalists Association of Chile) award in the category "Contribution to Jazz" and Radio Concierto awarded the prize for "Best Rock Group of 1989."

On 1990 the band plays the Festival Jazz Plaza in Havana Cuba, and started recording their third album that was released on 1993 under the name ¨El Infierno de los payasos¨, with a video clip of the song Lamentos.
The following year, (1994) they gave a concert with Hermeto Pascoal at the Teatro Municipal de Viña del Mar and in October the same year, celebrated 10 years of career in a large multi artistic concert at Teatro Universidad de Chile.
After a short recess the band recorded on 1997 their first independent album, ¨Trabajos Inutiles¨, also distributed worldwide by RecordRunner.
On 2002 they play at the Festival de Jazz de Cordova in Argentina.They continue touring and playing big shows around the country until 2003, just before releasing their first Live Album the pianist of the band Jaime Vivanco passed away, the band decided to stop plans and agenda.
The Live album was released on 2004 as a homage to Jaime Vivanco and was titled ¨VIVO¨.
This year 2009 Fulano started rehearsing again, a few years after the sad departure of a dear friend it is time to continue with a powerful musical project around the world.

Well, here it is, one of the most important albums on the chilean music history. This is a very weird production that broke the musical scene of my country at the late 80's.
Fulano's registred mark is a constant game with various genres from classic jazz to some completly avant garde sections thanks to the possesed bass of Jorge Campos, the syncopated drums of Guillermo Valenzuela, the awesome saxo solos by Jaime Vasquez and the pretty-hard voice of Arlette Jecquier one of the most talented vocalist of the world (I'm not joking).
A masterpiece. I really recommend this album to all jazz/fusion fanatics and prog fans to know a little more about the Latina American prog/fusion music during the las 30 years...

I'm really loving this band.I like the variety of styles they offer up including jazz,zeuhl,avant-gard and spacey sections.The female vocals though are really the icing on the cake.She can sing with the best of them,and she loves to perform.
Another impressive release from FULANO, a band that fans of jazz,zeuhl and avant-gard should really check out.

Fulano's third album is another masterpiece. Creative and extarordibary the band plays again -as usual- with the great talent of their musicians, specially Jorge Campos (bass) Jaime Vivanco (keyboards), Guillermo Valenzuela (drums) and Arlette Jecquier, queen of scat.

There are allusions to both jazz and progressive rock here. Melodic lines alternate between a mellow extension of lounge-jazz and the sharp angularity of the avant garde (one track is “Dedicado a Frank Vincent Zappa”). The saxes (plus clarinet and flutes) sometimes create the sound of modern French wind music and other times the breathy tenor sax sounds like it was lifted straight from a Charles Mingus recording. When Arlette sings over a spare piano she reminds me of Dagmar singing with Henry Cow – but I like her voice better.
South America has produced a number of good progressive rock bands and – separately – important jazz artists. Fulano encompasses both, and their album – if you can find it – is highly recommended.

Fulano ist die wichtigste Jazzrock-Band Chiles.
Fulano spielten 4 Alben ein, sporadisch, nicht darauf konzentriert, viel zu veröffentlichen. Eher war Fulano eine Liveband, deren Konzerte mitreißende Veranstaltungen waren, die keinen außen vor ließen.
Und das ist bei dieser enorm beeindruckenden Musik auch unbedingt wichtig. Die tiefe Leidenschaft und große Musikalität der Band, die unglaubliche Virtuosität und grandiose Dynamik der 12 Songs ist ungemein mitreißend. Hier sind Künstler am Werk, die Musik und Politik, Sozialisation und Widerstand eint.
Arlette Jequier ist eine phantasievolle, radikale und ausdrucksstarke Jazzsängerin, die oft unisono mit Saxophon, Bass und Perkussion zu langen Phrasierungen ausholt. Sie schreit, flüstert, haucht und brüllt Texte und lautmalerische Töne hinaus, steht selbstbewusst und felsenfest vor der Band und präsentiert Lebendigkeit und Selbstverständnis auf ausgeprägt eigene, mitreißende Weise. Das macht sie für mich zu einer der stärksten Jazzsängerinnen überhaupt. Das Publikum dankt ihr und der Band mit frenetischem Applaus.
"Vivo" ist ein absolutes Muss, unbedingte Empfehlung!

Wer einmal Arlette gehört hat, kann nur in ihren Bann gezogen werden. Allerdings muss man eine Vorliebe für Jazzrock, der auch schon mal in Henry Cow..scher Manier gespielt wird, mitbringen. Die komplexen Instrumentalpassagen haben oft das dynamisch-virtuose Format Frank Zappas, in Fulano-eigener Vorstellung gespielt. Es ist diese Art Musik, die eine ganz bestimmte Sorte Leute mögen, verrückte Prog-Heads, Jazzpuristen, Liebhaber des Außergewöhnlichen. Fulano waren die erste chilenische Band, die Popmusik akademisch spielten, das brachte den Fans Identifikationsmöglichkeiten. Die Fangemeinde ist stets gewachsen und hat sich verändert, die ersten Fans, heute um die Vierzig Jahre als, sind noch dabei, aber auch viele Studenten, neugierige junge Leute sind hinzugekommen.

“En el Bunker” es sin duda un álbum que marcó a una generación, un trabajo redondo en el cual todas sus composiciones, incluyendo las que se quitaron de la edición de cedé, son de excepción. Todas reflejan esas ganas de descubrir, explorar y experimentar que el grupo tenía, esas ambiciones de romper barreras, crear nuevos sonidos y reflejar a través de la música emociones contenidas, sentimientos de decepción, rabia y descontento social. A pesar de que han pasado 18 años desde su lanzamiento, es un disco que aún suena fresco e innovador. Por lo mismo un trabajo imperdible y por supuesto, un clásico obligado de nuestra banda sonora nacional.

En el bunker fué un disco que marcó mi vida, buscando peyolt y augusto toribio son mis canciones favoritas, larga vida a fulano, una vez casi casi tocamos juntos en un evento cerca del cerro santa lucía, la lluvia no quizo, pero los he seguido desde siempre, que les puedo decir, son capísimos, saludos, y aguante
