West London Deep
West London Deep is house music DJ, producer and remixer Dave Hedger. Dave began his musical career in the late 80s, working with house music pioneers such as David Holmes and Rocky & Diesel (X-Press 2) before forming the seminal Innersphere. With Andy Weatherall, as Lords of Afford, he toured the UK and Europe and appeared live on Radio One's Annie Nightingale show and on the late John Peel's Sessions. Big respect to John, he will be sadly missed.
As West London Deep, Dave has recorded many successful singles by himself and in collaboration, including one of Pete Tong's Essential New Tunes, "You're Taking Me Over" (subsequently retitled "Gonna Make You My Lover").
In 2004 he recorded a track with reggae legend Big Youth for Wall Of Sound's imaginative Two Culture Clash album, entitled "Rudie No!", and his remix of Bent's single "Comin' Back" received rave reviews and appeared on the Ministry Annual Summer compilation.
As a DJ Dave's production expertise shines through and his instinctive feel for what works on the dancefloor has led to many international gigs from Italy to Ukraine, Ibiza, all the major festivals, and an Essential Mix for Pete Tong on Radio One.
Dave has recently been focusing on studio work. The West London Deep single "Inside My Head", featuring vocals by (sic). Man, was released to great acclaim. Lottie, standing in for Pete Tong on Radio One's Essential Selection, described it as "a big, big room tune". Tongy played it as part of his Weekend Hot Mix, and it made the DMC Buzz Chart top ten. "Another piece of dance floor destruction" was their opinion, "watch this one fly."
"Dark Matter" was released at the end of last year as another limited edition white label and, on its first week of release, Tongy once again played it as part of his Weekend Hot Mix. He played it two more times in his Weekend Hot Mix and played it as part of the Buzz Chart when it went top ten at the end of February.
As a remixer Dave has added his magic touch to tunes by the likes of Moby, Orbital, Röyksopp, Infadels, Kosheen, Alison Limerick, Apollo 440 and The Dub Pistols, garnering a string of top five Buzz Chart placings in the process.
Derek Dahlarge
Derek Dahlarge is the famous eclectic club DJ. Perhaps known more for being "Mr Ibiza" than his DJ and production talents, Dahlarge is a skilled DJ who can entertain any crowd.
Derek is a legend in clubland and one of its most colourful individuals. As Mixmag put it, "Derek Dahlarge is a rarity among DJs, he is a character. When Derek hits the decks you know it's all going to go off."
Already a respected DJ, Dahlarge's career really took off when, in 1995, he waltzed into the offices of Wall of Sound with a tape deck. He played them "Trickshot", a tune he made as Ceasefire with Jason O'Bryan (Dub Pistols) and Mark Pember (Meat Katie). Wall of Sound snapped it up and it became the label's biggest selling single.
"Trickshot" is widely regarded as a classic and one of the best tunes Wall of Sound has ever released. It was recently included on Wall of Sound's 10th Anniversary compilation "10 Years of Off The Wall". Smokedcds.com said it still sounded "as fresh and phat as the proverbial butcher's cat, with its massive breakbeat and room-smashing breakdown."
Since then Dahlarge has played everywhere, from Iceland to Australia, Japan to Argentina. With Jon Carter he was the first DJ to tour Brazil. He recorded an Essential Mix for Pete Tong on Radio One and Ministry of Sound's first non-house mix CD, "FSUK (Future Sound of UK)". Celebrating the best of the "Big Beat" scene, it outsold all the succeeding FSUK compilations.
For three successive years Dahlarge held a summer residency at Manumission in Ibiza. While the press seemed more interested in his partying, Derek was hard at work with gigs virtually every night at Manumission, Space, Pacha and Miss Moneypenny's.
As a producer Dahlarge has collaborated with Jon Carter on "Hot Pursuit" as Naked Allstars and recorded another two tracks as Ceasefire for Wall of Sound: "Evel Knievel" with Deadly Avenger, which soundtracked a Hollywood movie and was called a "production masterpiece" by Bassline when they gave it 11 out of 10, and "Cruising" with Jagz Kooner (Sabres of Paradise).
A prolific remixer, Dahlarge has applied his eclectic talents to a diverse group of artists including Monkey Mafia, Dub Pistols, Carl Cox, Stakka Bo, Shades of Rhythm, Crooklyn Clan, Crystal Method, grunge rockers Bush and acid jazzsters James Taylor Quartet.
Derek currently has residencies at Renegade, Summer Badness and The Lodge and plays the famous Canal Parties in Scrubs Lane, the Debbie Does Dallas parties and the Xfm Remix annual Homelands carry-ons alongside the likes of Barry Ashworth, Stuart Patterson, The Loose Cannons, Eddy Temple-Morris, Future Funk Squad and Border Crossing.
