Mountains of the Moon Eco-Fashion Melissa's Interests
General
www.MountainsotheMoon.com Fashion design (preferably of the ECO variety), LIVE MUSIC, lots of travel, mini dresses in yellow/red/pale gray, learning how to rediscover life's simple pleasures through less idealistic eyes, twisted senses of humor, MY DOGS (love you Leary, miss you Tabha!), Tibetan Buddhism, Tibetan freedom, Tibetan tattoos, Tibetan food, yoga, quality art, soy lattes, good organic vegetarian food, stainless steel volcanoes, meditation, mountains/ocean/forests/nay-cha, new year's eves in San Francisco and/or Chicago, west Sonoma county in the summer, Colorado (where it all began), Topanga on the last day of trips to L.A., Chicago always, Brooklyn always, Amsterdam with good friends, small towns in Belgium after long stays in Paris, exploring new places and cultures, anything involving the deportation of Dubya, and practicing compassion for all sentient beings. And Patron.
And the most incredible place in the entire world: Costa Ricaaaahhh . . . !!!PuRa ViDa!!!
Music
The good ol' Grateful Dead, Ween, Apollo Sunshine, Phil Lesh, Feist, MGMT, Daniel Johnston, Umphrey's McGee, Dr. Dog, Johnny Cash, Chromeo, Yonder Mountain String Band, Daft Punk, Jane's Addiction, Joni Mitchell, Girl Talk, Neil Young, Patsy Cline, Bob Dylan, Jeff Buckley, Cat Power, good reggae, the Postal Service, Tom Waits, the Raconteurs, Elliott Smith, American Babies, the Killers, Guns n' Roses, early Jayhawks, Wilco, Tibetan monks chanting, Pearl Jam, Velvet Underground, Death Cab for Cutie, the Beatles, Hampton Comes Unglued, Bustle in Your Hedgerow, the sweet sound of the pedal steel, ass-shakin' stuff-struttin' rock-n-roll, obscure new music heard in random bars... The list never ends. Music is the inspiration behind Mountains of the Moons designs, and music festivals are one of our favorite places to showcase our work. Stop by our vending booths at Bonnaroo, Vegoose and other major music festivals and say bonjour.
Movies
Kundun, Lost in Translation, Sicko, Fahrenheit 911, Bowling For Columbine, An Inconvenient Truth, The Motorcycle Diaries, Garden State, Brokeback Mountain, Into the Wild, American Beauty, Sideways, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, The Royal Tennenbaums, Alice's Restaurant, The Devil and Daniel Johnston, V for Vendetta, Easy Rider, What the Bleep Do We Know?, To Kill a Mockingbird, Festival Express, Maria Full of Grace, Shop Girl, the Graduate, It's a Wonderful Life, obscure/random movies that only play on television at 4 in the morning, that student film I stared in my senior year in college (only because those vintage go-go boots I wore were amazing), liberal political documentaries that enrage and motivate.
Television
Television, if allowed to do so, exists as little more than a brainwashing machine. Seriously. And please friends, don't be fooled by the media. The news you're getting is all one big, fat lie. That said, I will proudly profess my profound and undying love for Sex and the City, Project Runway, and Entourage.
Books
Living on the Earth, A Simple Path (His Holiness the Dalai Lama), anything by HH the Dalai Lama, Be Here Now, Stupid White Men, On the Road, Dharma Bums, Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, Catcher in the Rye, Black Elk Speaks, Ivy's crayola marker-covered steno pad, bathroom stalls in dive bars.
Heroes
I have an awful lot of heroes and sheroes: My sweet baby girl doggy Tabha (Amitabha Moon: 12/02/99-06/04/08) - the biggest free spirit and most beautiful creature I have ever known, my little boy doggy Leary who has taught me so much more than any human ever could, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, my little sissy Morgan Anna, my mom (who encouraged me to create and design from an early age), my dad (who played the Grateful Dead to get me to sleep as a baby and gave me "Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test" for a high school graduation gift), my BFF Little Jen, Neala - my pattern maker and mentor (RIP 06/01/2008), my incredibly courageous Aunt Annie (RIP 09/10/2006), Julia Butterfly and eco-warriors everywhere, dedicated artists, Mahatma Gandhi and all peace-keepers, Ken Kesey, Michael Moore, Morgan/Rachel/Kari/Corinne and all of the amazing people who make up the Mountains of the Moon crew, the person who saw me dancing in the red dress and told me I was the most beautiful woman ever (I love you rw), the Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha...
The day I got to meet my biggest hero of all... OM MANI PADME HUM
