The Fund for African Relief and Education (FARE) was established in 1995 as a tax exempt charity in order to create a targeted funding mechanism able to respond rapidly to acute needs in situations of extreme poverty, war and despair. For the past 12 years, FARE has raised over $1,000,000 to help individuals, families and local groups in its priority areas of education, health and income generation.FARE’s goal is to help people gain the skills and resources they need to help themselves and become self-supporting.
Many people in the U.S. cannot imagine the extreme poverty around which FARE works. FARE works at micro-levels to help those in emergency situations and to expand educational and revenue-producing opportunities for others. Here is what your contribution can do:
$100.00
Can pay primary school fees for two children for a full year.
$250.00
Enough for an uneducated person to start a sustainable street corner micro-business, providing revenue for years.
$500.00
Enough to purchase equipment and open a small tailor shop.
$1,000.00
Secondary school fees for 30 kids in Sierra Leone, and many other countries.
FARE was established on the basis of volunteerism and the premise that it is possible to profoundly affect the lives of at least some people in often desperate situations without building a large administrative infrastructure or having full-time staff.
