Everyone in the band is influenced by many things, Abe the songwriter is argentinian by birth but lived in Madrid for 7 years and he has been influenced by spanish groups such as manu chao, mano negra, ketama, pata negra; also ozomatli, jimi hendrix, freddie king, funkadelic, the clash, films, visual art and experimental music that Abe also dabbles in with Ray Unit. German comes from a musical background that includes 70..s Argentinian rock (associations with Pappo..s Blues), salsa and touring technical work in Spain with countless international artists such as Ricky Martin, the Rolling Stones and Spanish pop and jazz big band stars.
Oslu is from Colombia and has played in latin bands in Argentina in the last ten years prior to relocating to Australia some months ago
Mario comes from Croatia, a land rich in musical tradition. He has played with top Salsa and Andean music groups in Western Australia and brings in a wealth of musical heritage from his dad..s side, who was a proffessor of music in Croatia but he also played in rock bands.
Adrian plays with The Chameleon Brass band and works also as a freelance trumpet player for many different bands in Perth. He provides the horn arrangements for Funkalleros and brings in his good party vibes and tasty solos.
Nina Henschel toured for many years with her band Kubata in Australia and Europe. She plays flute and sings backing and lead vocals. A tremendous player of great feeling and energy.
Suryo is a veteran of the funk scene in Perth, having played with the legendary Prawns with Horns as well as stints in numerous funk bands. Currently he plays with lisistrata.
All of Funkalleros are totally passionate about Afro-Cuban rhythms and fusion music in general. We endevour to perform 100% original music with a few selected covers, something quite rare in the Latin music scene these days...
La banda fue fundada por el Bonaerense asentado en Australia desde 1989 Abraham Dunovits junto con su hermano german en el 2004, despues de varios años de tocar en diferentes grupos de salsa y musica de fusion en perth, australia occidental. Funkalleros toca musica original compuesta por Abraham, quien ha side influenciado por artistas tan diversos como Pata Negra, Manu Chao, Mano Negra, Ketama, La Vieja Trova Cubana, Paco de Lucia, The Clash (punk en general tambien), viejos rockeros de los 60 y 70, Ozomatli, Artistas Afro Americanos de Blues como todos los Kings, etc.
Su hermano German trabajo en Argentina con Pappos Blues en los áños setenta y en España con innumerables y diversos artistas internacionales y españoles como Rocio Durcal, La Union, Obus, Ricky Martin, los Rolling Stones y muchos más.
El colombiano Oslu se destaca por su pasión por la percusión Afro Cubana y su energía y poderio improvisador en el escenario. Oslu vivió muchos años en Argentina, donde forjo su estilo tocando con artistas y bandas del mundo de la salsa en Buenos Aires.
Mario es Croata y lleva música en su sangre. Su padre era profesor de música en la universidad de Zagreb. Mario ha tocado con las bandas más destacadas de Salsa de Australia Occidental y tambien en grupos de música andina y de rock tocando la guitarra.
Adrian tambien tiene su grupo Camaleon Brass Band, (música de Nueva Orleans) y aporta lor arreglos de metales y solos de trompeta.
El saxo alto de Suryo le da al grupo un sonido mas jazzista y fonky. Suryo es veterano de la escena funk de Perth y lleva mucho tiempo tocando.
Funkalleros solo toca música de composición propia de Abraham con algunas versiones de canciones que nos gusta tocar, cosa que no ocurre en la escena salsera australiana por el momento...
