Influences
Colin and Jurgen met each other in Olly' s Corner, a legendary place in Sint-Niklaas, where Colin was one of the resident dj' s. At that time, Jurgen was working in the fashion industry where he was a member of the G-Star team that lifted the label from a small brand to a multi-national denim institute. At that time he arranged sponsordeals with Ten Days of Techno. Jurgen accompanied Colin to his residencies in Mbrio (together with Tom De Neef and The Glimmers - back then known as Mo & Benoeli) and at Double Trouble. Jurgen was also present at the various other gigs in venues like Cirque Central (Ghent), Cherry Moon (Lokeren), Vienna (St-Niklaas), Fill Collins Club (Antwerp) and many other places.
Eventually, Jurgen wanted to share his good taste in music with the rest of the world and teamed up with Colin. When they asked Joris (Colin' s good friend and graphic guru) to join the team, FUNKAPULCO was born. In that time, Jurgen worked for a company that introduced and distributed designer furniture, which led to the interior decorating of the Belmondo parties in SMAK.
Two residencies followed soon after that: New Year' s Eve parties and Beach parties, both in Blauwbuik. The 3 funkadudes then decided to expand their activities and threw a first party, still infamous as Funkapulco Deluxe. Word was spreading and other gigs were a fact: Luigi' s during the Lokerse Feesten, Foyer, Okapi, Cramme, Eglantier, Café Local, Zoox and numerous of private parties and collection launch parties.
October 2007, Jurgen decided to enter a national dj competion for fun...Eventually, FUNKAPULCO was picked by a professional jury as the winner. This happened once more, when the second contest was won in March 2008 and once more (yes tripple winners that is 3 times !!!) in December 2008 !
These competitions lead to high profile gigs in NOXX (Antwerp), FUSE (Brussels) and PETROL (Antwerp), a double appearance at the Electrocuted radio show (Urgent FM) and into a sponsor agreement with Visaversa, national supplier of U-BOAT WATCHES.
In 2008, we agreed that it would be nice to play at a festival, mostly for the great atmosphere. But instead of 1 festival, it turned out a bit different. We can now look back at a wonderful summer playing gigs at LOKERSE FEESTEN, CRAMMEROCK and CITYPARADE.
