Funk Brother Jack Ashford is a celebrated Motown musician. His legendary performances on the tambourine and vibes enhanced the majority of the Classic Motown hits from the 1960's through the early 1970's.
As a member of the Funk Brothers Band, he played on more number one hits than the Beach Boys, the Rolling Stones, Elvis Presley and the Beatles combined.
From the "Snakepit", at Motowns' Studio "A", he delivered the steady and foreboding rattle of his tambourine on the intro to Marvin Gayes' "I Heard it Through the Grapevine", among other hits.
Many have tried to duplicate his controlled tambourine delivery and have failed.This is why he is called "The Fabulous Tambourine Man".
For the last four decades Jack Ashford has recorded and performed with a long list of artists worldwide.
He is a natural on stage, sharing raw Motown history so masterfully, one is transported back to the 1960's.
As an original member of the Funk Brothers' Band, Jack is featured in the hit movie "Standing in the Shadows of Motown."
He is the recipient of two Grammy Awards, the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and several Gold records.
Since 2006, Funk Brother Jack Ashford and His Funk Brothers Band have performed at The Ryders' Cup, American Idol, The House of Blues in New York City, Mohegan Sun Casino, Motown 45, The Chrysler Block Party, The Jay Leno Show, The David Letterman Show, the JVC Jazz Festival, The Sigmund Stern Music Festival, Delaware Celebrations of Jazz, various Blues and Jazz Festivals.He has also performed at corporate and private parties.
Jack's tours have taken him in every direction in the U.S., Japan, and several European countries.
Mr. Ashfords'experience is so vast it could fill a book. Therefore, he has published his autobiography entitled "Motown:The View From the Bottom". This book will tell you what was omitted in the movie.
He has been featured in many publications as well as live
interviews.
