Daniel - and the various funk bands that have or will hopefully play at FunkFests: Loose Juice, Small Town Bullies, South of the Border, Funk It, Mondatta Funk, Uncle Funk and the Retro Stalkers, Hoss, Soulberry Jam and hopefully loads more....
Influences
The Meters, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Arethra Franklin, The New Mastersounds and loads more including shedloads of obscure funk bands from the late 60s and 70s who did just the one cracking tune!
Sounds Like
Funk, the way god intended. (gritty, organic, genuine)
The concept of FunkFest is simple: fantastic live funk bands with funky DJing in between the bands. The idea is to a) provide a platform for funk bands to perform to a crowd of dedicated funk followers and to check out other funk bands in the area, b) to give the people out there who properly appreciate funk music the perfect night and c) educate a few people who aren't familiar with funk about just what a great genre of music it is. FunkFests have so far only taken place at the Steamboat Tavern in Ipswich and there will be more there during 2008. I’ll also be taking FunkFest to Zing Wine Bar in Ipswich during 2008 and hopefully to other towns in East Anglia. See you at a FunkFest soon!
Hey folks, its Groove Cartels last local gig for sometime tonight (10 May) at The Brewery Tap, Peterborough. Music starts at 10pm, get there before while its still free. May the funk be with you.......

Hiya Daniel, you are quickly becoming THE funk networking page of the East! Glad you got a fest at The Zing, its as nice an atmosphere as we've found in Ipswich...
Thanks for the add mate, nice to see a promoter actually putting on some good funky music instead of the usual boring stuff. We'd love to play for you sometime if you ever need a band. Cheers hs
