FUNKMODE is a performance and education company based out of the East San Francisco Bay Area in Northern California. It began out of the desire to combine various elements of the performing arts in ways that the founders saw few or no other people doing. Then it grew into a performing arts school in Pleasant Hill serving hundreds of children and adults and specializing in Hip Hop and Theater (and especially Hip Hop Theater). From there, they started a performance company which creates video performances made especially for the internet allowing FUNKMODE to go beyond their local roots to reach a worldwide audience with their creativity and ideas. In its most recent evolution, FUNKMODE has moved into writing and producing its own original stage shows such as Spring 2007's FUNK-O-VISION and Fall 2007's The Hip Hop Homeroom.
FUNKMODE's mission is to keep Hip Hop culture alive by making sure it evolves and grows. They are taking Hip Hop performance to a new level by combining it with the classically accepted and established performing arts. It is also very important to them to help the Hip Hop culture develop themselves professionally so that they can protect their art and reap the profits of their own creativity. Bottom line, they are here to Protect and Serve Hip Hop so that it stays around for a long, long time!
Mighty, the co-founder of FUNKMODE, is a Hip Hop snob (um, connoisseur) born at the dawn of the era and raised on heaping helpings of funk, soul, b-boying of all kinds, freestyle party dancing, emceeing (who said rap?) and Flintstones Vitamins.
He taught and performed across the US professionally for many years before deciding to settle down in his home (The Bay) and start his own performance and education business. Now he eats, sleeps and breathes FUNKMODE which allows him an virtually unlimited outlet for his creativity. Now, instead of robbing old ladies in the street, taking candy from little kids and punching puppies and stuff he choreographs, writes, directs and produces shows, does graphic design, video editing and builds websites like FUNKMODE.com
His turn-offs include wack wannabees and sell-outs (cough, cough, liljon50centdankaraty, cough, whoa, had a lil tickle there), weak minds and ignorance. His turn-ons are tech toys, Funk and Soul music from the late 60s to early 80s, beaches, punching puppies (no wait, NOT punching puppies) and gourmet chocolate. His life ambition is to inspire others to find and express what they do best by successfully going after and achieving his own dreams.
Cara Young (aka "The Bunny"), also the co-founder of FUNKMODE("co" means two), pretty much just wants to run and play and be happy. In fact, she's had that as her life goal since she was just a baby peanut. About as soon as she could walk she found herself in dance classes and the rest is history. She went on to dance competitively, on teams, in High School, in the shower, in her car, and then later in college at Arizona State University, where she completed a degree in Dance Education.
Now she keeps herself busy teaching, performing and producing full-time with FUNKMODE. Cara's turn-offs include meanness, soda, rainy months and rainy people. Her turn-ons are cage fighting, shoes, shopping, shoe shopping, motorcycles, and Asian decor.
